This February is packed with exciting musical performances in all genres, and the WildKat PR team have picked their favourites for this week’s Unmissables:
When? Tuesday 15th February 13:15 (This concert is free!)
Lunchtime concerts are always a great way to hear highly talented musicians perform to an intimate concert, usually for free! This concert sees Sarah Turner on Violin performing Schubert’s Violin sonata in A major, D.574 and Manuel De Falla’s La Vida Breve: Spanish Dance no. 1 (Danse Espagnole) with accompaniments from Nao Maebayashi.
What? Scottish Ensemble; Alison Balsom trumpet; Royal Academy Soloists
Where? Wigmore Hall
This programme includes works from Alison Balsom’s latest CD of Italian concertos, recorded with the Scottish Ensemble, as well as the world première of a new commission for Balsom and the Ensemble by James MacMillan. The new work is framed by the rarely performed Variations on ‘Sellenger’s Round’ (also known as the Aldeburgh Variations) and Tippett’s homage to Corelli.
What? Harmonic Series
Where? Southbank Centre
As part of the Harmonic Series, Southbank Centre Artist in Residence cellist Oliver Coates provides an exciting, unconventional concert in unexpected areas of the Royal Festival Hall. The concert showcases music from a variety of genres in an informal setting, including classical, contemporary and electronic music, and there are appearances from musicians such as Serafina Steer, Tom Herbert and Alice Grant. The audience is requested to meet at Spirit Level Foyer at 7.45pm. Tickets cost only £5, with 50% off for concessions.
What? Transfigured Night – Aronowitz Ensemble
Where? The Forge, Camden
The brilliant Aronowitz Ensemble’s concert will comprise musical repertoire exploring the theme of the realm of the night, with evocative nocturnal illustrations including Schubert’s haunting Notturno (for piano trio) and Schoenberg’s shimmering Verklärte Nacht (for string sextet) alongside some contemporary works. Tickets cost £10 and this also includes a drink. Ticket holders for this event are entitled to 15% off food from the a la carte menu (not set menu) at Caponata Restaurant on the day of the concert.
