“We are delighted to welcome back the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for their European tour in the summer of 2017, having executed a successful creative PR campaign for the release of ‘Concertos for Orchestra’. The CSO is an incredibly versatile and forward-thinking ensemble, and we look forward to developing and sharing their stories with European audiences.” – Olivia Brown, Head of Creative Strategy & Marketing

The orchestra will visit several cities in countries around Europe this summer, with dates at the Edinburgh International Festival and San Sebastian already confirmed and more to be announced shortly. In March 2017 it was announced that Louis Langrée was to remain Music Director of the CSO for the 2019-2020 season.

Founded in 1895, the CSO is the sixth oldest orchestra in the United States and the first to be broadcast to a national radio audience in 1921. With a rich history of music making directly linked to the community in the state of Ohio, the CSO ordinarily reside in the Venetian gothic ‘Music Hall’ building, which recently underwent extensive renovation and restoration. The 2017 tour will bring American musical excellence to audiences across Europe, delighting fans new and old with their ‘richness, precision and intensity’ of performance.

CSO previously released live recorded album ‘Concertos for Orchestra’ in November 2016 on the orchestra’s own label ‘Fanfare’, featuring world premieres of seven pieces by contemporary composers. Works from this album will feature among a varied concert programme performed on the European tour.

WildKat PR are delighted to introduce another new client: concert violinist Moonkyung Lee, who performs extensively across Europe, as well as the United States and South Korea, and she has collaborated with many eminent ensembles, conductors, and performers. Highlights include the Cordoba Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Maxim Shostakovich, and performing the Beethoven Triple Concerto with cellist Mischa Maisky and the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra. Moonkyung Lee plays an 1845 Vuillaume violin, which was previously owned by Jack Benny.

Moonkyung Lee has won many awards and scholarships, such as the Luigi Zanuccoli International Competition and the Padova International Competition, and she holds an NYU/Steinhardt Doctoral Fellowship for Ph.D. Studies (of which she was the first ever classical string performer recipient). Her two recitals in Seoul in 2015 were sponsored by the Arts Council Korea, and she has often featured as a solo performer on Korea’s national television, KBS, in its Classical Odyssey, a programme devoted solely to classical music. She has also participated in many music festivals such as the International Summer Academy Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria and the Banff Center for the Arts in Banff, Canada.

WildKat PR are excited to be working on her upcoming album release of works for violin & orchestra by Tchaikovsky.  It was recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Croatian conductor Miran Vaupotić, and will be released on PARMA Recordings in February 2017 (exact release date tbc).

WildKat PR are delighted to be starting work with Olivia Salvadori and Sandro Mussida, ahead of the release of their album Dare Voce this autumn. Olivia and Sandro are particularly interested in exploring the interaction between different genres, traditions and timbres.

Olivia Salvadori is a classically trained soprano, an operatic solo performer, and an experimental recording artist. Her music creates an eclectic avant-garde union between her deep, lyrical voice and a classically-influenced electronic accompaniment. In 2013, Olivia began recording her album, Dare Voce, in collaboration with producer, composer and cellist Sandro Mussida. His work investigates the consequences of compositional choices on musical matter and explores the interaction between acoustic/classical, electric and electronic fields.

Dare Voce features nine compositions in song form for soprano voice with electric/electronic accompaniment. Alongside elements from traditional classical Italian opera, the compositions incorporate more contemporary and experimental styles.

Follow their latest news here on WildKat PR Blog. In addition, you can follow Olivia on her website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Soundcloud, where you can listen to some of her recordings. You can also follow Sandro on his website, Facebook, TwitterInstagram, as well as Soundcloud to listen to his works.

Musician and composer John Matthias and record label Village Green have released another live video of music from John’s fantastic album. The second video is released today on youtube and features the track ‘Close Knit’ from John’s new album ‘Geisterfahrer’, out now to buy here.

This track was reviewed as ‘haunting’ by Irregular Crates, who also noted ‘the subtlest of electronic influence’ in this beautiful piece of music. John performs on the violin accompanied by piano and the ‘Neurogranular Sampler’, an instrument designed by John at Plymouth University with Jane Grant, Tim Hodgson, Nick Ryan, Kin Design and Eduardo Miranda.

John performed ‘Close Knit’ on BBC Radio 3 this February in the lead up to the album launch, describing the Neurogranular Sampler’s process whereby a ‘violin is played into the computer, which then takes part of that sound….when the neurons fire, it takes those pieces and retriggers them’ live on the show. Presenter Sean Rafferty described John’s performance as ‘fantastic’ and bringing the show ‘right up to date’.

‘Jackie Bouvier’ from John Matthias

(Written on March 17, 2014 )

Yesterday evening, John Matthias performed for and spoke live to BBC Radio 3 for the drive-time show ‘In Tune’.

His performance with fellow musicians Jay Auborn and Dunstan Belcher brought the show ‘right up to date’ with a performance using violin, piano and John’s instrument the Neurogranular Sampler, creating an ‘absolutely fantastic’ performance of three tracks from his new album Geisterfahrer: the title track, Birdsong and Close-Knit.

John described the Neurogranular Sampler’s process whereby a ‘violin is played into the computer, which then takes part of that sound… when the neurons fire, it takes those pieces and retriggers them’, explaining that the reason the instrument seems to work well is because these firings are not random, but are patterned. Jay, who used the instrument to perform on the show, described the important two-way relationship between what John plays and what the computer puts back to him, adding ‘to me, it’s another tool to use to explore being creative’.

This trio of musicians are performing at the ‘Thinking Music’ Peninsula Arts Contemporary Music Festival this Sunday in Plymouth, an event described by Sean Rafferty as ‘gaining a reputation for being a very cutting edge but joyous occasion’. Listen back to the show here for all the fantastic performances and explanations of John’s work. His album Geisterfahrer is released on February 17th on the Village Green label, with a Vinyl LP release on the 24th.
