The first podcast from Noted has been released, following the Noted Roundtable on Inclusion and Diversity.

Noted Round-ups are short podcasts that follow the Noted Roundtables – an international series which looks to bring about change in the performing arts industry through discussion and implementation. Through Noted, we want to generate new solutions to industry problems, not just with our own industry members and artists, but with brand leaders from different fields, and also—most importantly—the audience! The Roundtables bring together this unique combination of stakeholders on an equal footing.

The very first Noted Round-ups episode is a discussion on what was originally “diversity”, but now referred to as “inclusivity”. Here we discuss minorities in the performing arts industry, focusing on those backstage (not on stage), covering race, gender, background, and more.

We came out of this session with the following action points:

  • When recruiting, be more explicit about what we don’t want or need (e.g. an arts degree), and present the image of our ideal candidate in the advertising
  • Either ensure that job titles clearly state what the position is, or make them more sexy and fun
  • Create inclusive communities in the performing arts administrative sector, spanning across both audiences and potential employees
  • Showcase the exciting elements of our industry, through podcasts, videos, partnerships with mainstream brands
  • Shake up internal systems – reverse mentoring, creative sessions led by interns, engage more with outside the industry

Bold opera pioneers Tête à Tête has announced its upcoming plans for the 2017 season, 20 years since the company was founded.

“What amazing adventures we have enjoyed across these the past two decades, realising bold and brave experiments, creating opera really up close, establishing a really strong and intimate relationship with our audiences and revelling in the theatricality of the form”

2017 also marks the Anniversary of the company’s first Opera Festival. To celebrate, they have planned the 10th Anniversary of Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival. It will take place at King’s Cross from 24 July – 13 August 2017, at both The Place and King’s Place. They are also delighted to announce that the well-received Cubitt Sessions will be back as a centre-piece of the festival. Full details on productions and tickets will be announced in May 2017. Watch this space!

Besides announcing its 2017 season, Tête à Tête also released a Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival 10th anniversary report, demonstrating their outstanding commitment to inclusivity and diversity: 22% of composers in 2015 were BAME or coming from minority backgrounds.

This year, they will also be launching ‘MyNewOpera’, a global platform featuring the work of producers from all over the world, ready to watch. They already have an archive of over 400 videos for the launch, with many more to be added before then. It turns out that the explosion of small-scale new opera and music theatre is a global trend, and online, without barriers, it can start to happen worldwide.

WildKat PR is delighted to welcome Brooklyn Rider to its Client Roster.

Brooklyn Rider is an adventurous group of musicians whose innovation and passion for new music has attracted a great deal of fans and extensive critical acclaim. The quartet has collaborated with banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck, Chinese pipa player Wu Man, Syrian/Armenian visual artist Kevork Mourad, singer/songwriters Christina Courtin and Suzanne Vega, and many more. NPR credits Brooklyn Rider with “recreating the 300-year-old form of string quartet as a vital and creative 21st-century ensemble”. The group takes its name from Der Blaue Reiter (Blue Rider) artists’ collective from Munich, a movement that included painters Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc. Brooklyn Rider’s sense of cross-genre and cross-disciplinary art forms is rejuvenating the string quartet.

On their upcoming tour, Brooklyn Rider will bring their signature blend of classic quartet repertoire and new works which challenge genre boundaries to clubs and concert halls across Denmark, Sweden, Germany and the UK. The 8-date tour will feature music from the group’s 2013 Mercury Classics release A Walking Fire, including Bartók’s String Quartet No. 2, Lev “Ljova” Zhurbin’s Culai, and Three Miniatures by Brooklyn Rider’s Colin Jacobsen, with the addition of music by Philip Glass, Franz Schubert and Tobias Broström.
