Shares in the company scaled a new high on Friday afternoon, jumping as much as 4 per cent to a record high of $172.76. The reason for the sudden jump was not immediately clear, but it came as Recode reported that Spotify has started licensing songs directly from artists and their managers.

In today’s news: Alexander Liebreich named Chief Conductor of the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra and Alison Balsom appointed as artistic director of Cheltenham Music Festival. Also, the Berlin Philharmonic to form an amateur orchestra, tenor Bruce Rankin is dead and artists are getting attacked more often as Unesco reports.
