In today’s classical news, applications are now open for the 9th Sound and Music’s Summer School, which will take place from 30th July to 5th August this year. Violinist Ray Chen, former 1st prize winner at the Yehudi Menuhin and Queen Elisabeth International Violin Competitions, signs with Decca Classics. Renowned violinist and conductor Pinchas Zukerman will open New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s three-concert Winter Festival 2017, with a program of works by Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn from January 13th to 15th. In today’s classical news, Niklas Hoffmann was announced the winner of the 14th Donatella Flick LSO conducting competition last night. Taxpayer’s bill for English National Opera has risen to £155,000 per show, after the company scaled back its work to cope with funding cuts. Conductor Harry Bicket has extended his contract with Santa Fe Opera until autumn 2020. Also, on Sunday 27 November, BBC Radio 3 will replace its usual schedule with 12 hours of live concerts, features and interviews to showcase the work of the BBC Orchestras and Choirs.
