It’s been an incredibly busy year at WildKat and we are so excited to continue our successes into 2018. As always, we’ve tried to pack as much as we can into a blog post for you all. The projects and clients mentioned below are a tiny portion of our highlights – Enjoy! 😊

First, a message from our Founder, Kat, who is already in the Austrian alps, ready to start the holidays:

“2017: you beast! I must admit I am quite glad to see the back of it… We launched and worked on so many projects and events, it felt like we somehow skipped the usual “quiet periods”. It has certainly been a challenging year; the uncertainty of the cultural and creative industries was felt across our sector and so internally we had to rethink our offerings, our staffing and general structure.

We have had some fantastic new clients and projects signed up to WildKat. Some personal highlights have been:

Mostly this year has been for me expanding the WildKat offices, opening a new one in Paris next year and working on our non-profit arm, Noted.

I have travelled for both companies to all corners of the world, and have had some great meetings and events take place, centred around the ethos of sharing and forwarding our industry. I think there is amongst all the anticipation on what future events (including Brexit, US etc) will bring a sense of renewed movement forward. I am encouraged to see so many positive ideas. The Noted Fellowship is in the next stage with announcements to follow in the New Year and our roundtables have come to life in Berlin, London and New York with fascinating thoughts and exchanges. My vision of having the newly graduates give the artistic director ideas on the future of our sector, is coming to life and its VERY rewarding!”


Internally we also have some great news:
  • Carolin is embarking on the ultimate WildKat perk: a 2 month paid sabbatical to New Zealand. (We are all just a tad jealous (“a tad” is putting it very lightly!! – Olivia)
  • Great staff have joined our teams all over the world, waving at at Eliza, Rachel, Alex, Nicolo, Maddie, Katja, and our continually growing pool of freelancers, consultants, and collaborators
  • Olivia was promoted to our UK Director and is, as expected, thriving in her new role. She also hits the 5 year anniversary mark next year and will at some stage embark on her sabbatical

Olivia says, “2017 has been a pretty turbulent year on all counts – whilst we have celebrated some truly inspiring projects, and championed everything that is BRILLIANT in our sector, and what it has to offer, we have all had to face a heavy and consistent hailstone of, let’s face it, awful news in the general media and across socials.

Saying this, one thing that our sector does best is use these events to inspire creativity, and to reflect and respond using our art and passion. Following the development of the “B-word”, we had the hilarious “The United Kingdom of Earth: A B***** Opera” at Tête à Tête’s 10th festival. Soosan Lolavar’s “ID, please” had its UK premiere at the same festival, reflecting on Trump’s travel ban. Ariana Grande sold out the Manchester arena for a benefit concert, following the bombings. There are many, many more examples, and there will continue to be.

As we look ahead to 2018, it’s important to remember the important of collaboration, cooperation, and participation. We have had such fresh ideas in discussion and have started to make change happen. We want to continue to work together, create conversations, involve diverse & conflicting voices, and create progress for classical music and the arts. I’m so excited for what is to come…”

Olivia visits New York for the first time!

Before Carolin heads off on her travels, she says, “Launching the Noted Fellowship this year was a real highlight, and I was so inspired to see all the innovative ideas that came through the application process. The only downside was choosing who would go on to stage 2. Good luck, everyone!

I’m very excited to make the most of my 2-month sabbatical, part of the WildKat perks, to not only have a long holiday (!) and travel the world, but also to return to the company and the industry with a refreshed and revived perspective.”

We are all really looking forward to 2018, particularly as we are celebrating 10 years of WildKat with a big party (joint with Music in Offices – happy birthday to you too!) and lots of fun events.

Bold opera pioneers Tête à Tête has announced its upcoming plans for the 2017 season, 20 years since the company was founded.

“What amazing adventures we have enjoyed across these the past two decades, realising bold and brave experiments, creating opera really up close, establishing a really strong and intimate relationship with our audiences and revelling in the theatricality of the form”

– Bill Bankes-Jones, Founder and Artistic Director

2017 also marks the Anniversary of the company’s first Opera Festival. To celebrate, they have planned the 10th Anniversary of Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival. It will take place at King’s Cross from 24 July – 13 August 2017, at both The Place and King’s Place. They are also delighted to announce that the well-received Cubitt Sessions will be back as a centre-piece of the festival. Full details on productions and tickets will be announced in May 2017. Besides announcing its 2017 season, Tête à Tête also released a Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival 10th anniversary report, demonstrating their outstanding commitment to inclusivity and diversity: 22% of composers in 2015 were BAME or coming from minority backgrounds.

This year, they will also be launching ‘MyNewOpera’, a global platform featuring the work of producers from all over the world, ready to watch. They already have an archive of over 400 videos for the launch, with many more to be added before then. It turns out that the explosion of small-scale new opera and music theatre is a global trend, and online, without barriers, it can start to happen worldwide.

2016 – what a year it has been! 

It’s been a year full of political and cultural changes and we look forward what 2017 holds in store. 

We have also had to adapt WildKat’s set up and services towards the current climate. Artists and organisations, as well as independent projects, look for even more value for money, and for smarter, more effective approaches towards reaching audiences. 2016 is the year we truly went into number crunching, exploring what and how coverage converts into ticket sales, which platform drives different types of traffic, what will guarantee a sell-out and what is worth an investment for the future. 

We have brought in a new set of Account Managers and created new roles to cater to a renewed interest in broader press and online targets. 

I am optimistic about 2017. Change always means opportunity. It means we are in motion, and the arts are the first place we will see that. I look forward to new pieces being created, new companies being formed and new ideas coming to fruition.

Thank you to all our partners, clients, journalists and the wonderful staff across all our WildKat offices. We finish the year on a high with our annual skiing trip to Austria! Let’s slide merrily into the New Year.

In 2016, WildKat PR continued to expand our roster with lots of diverse projects and campaigns, from Ancient Academy of Music to Metal’s production of Steve Reich’s Different Trains with the London Contemporary Orchestra. We also worked with a wide range of fantastic organisations on unique projects, including projects with The European Union Youth Orchestra, Help Musicians UK and Live Music Now. Also, across the Atlantic Ocean in our New York office, we began campaigns with the world-renowned The Cliburn and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.


Here are some highlights from our fantastic year:

In Spring 2016, Sacconi Quartet and Sacconi Chamber Music Festival returned to WildKat, and it was another very successful year for them, highlights include a 5-star review by The Guardian and also an awesome review by Financial Times. They also premiered Jonathan Dove’s ‘In Damascus’, a brand new work for Tenor and String Quartet.

In Summer 2016, another year, another weird and wonderful set of Tête a Tête performances, including Toni Castells‘ ‘2045: The Year Man Becomes Immortal?‘, which featured in The Guardian‘s top classical picks, and on BBC Radio 3: In Tune, amongst other outlets. They also ran six productions, forming part of the Cubitt Sessions at the heart of King’s Cross this year. Looking ahead to 2017, lots are going to happen in January with Tête a Tête, so keep reading our blog to follow their latest news!

In August, BitterSuite launched their crowd-funding campaign on Kickstarter, and successfully reached their target. They were featured in Vice, and they also debuted in New York at Brooklyn Academy of Music in December.

In Autumn 2016, we worked with Metal Liverpool on Steve Reich’s Different Trains. We gained a huge range of alternative coverage, including The Sunday Times, live-streaming on Boiler Room, and BBC Radio 6 Music.

In Winter 2016, Ailie Robertson‘s classical debut single ‘Haven’ was a big hit, reaching No.2 on iTunes Classical Chart. She also made appearances on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio 3: In Tune.


The Academy of Ancient Music received a very strong set of reviews for our first concert with them, recording 4 and 5 stars.  They also continue to receive excellent reviews for their disc of music by Dario Castello, which proves to be increasingly popular following the concert and broadcast and is encouraging in supporting their aim to bring neglected music to a wider audience.  We now very much look forward to the release of the second volume in 2017.


Accentus Music also has had an incredible year with us, with over 50 pieces of coverage throughout the year, and several productions nominated in several categories for the International Classical Music Awards 2017, including a CD by the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra and Alban Berg’s opera ‘Wozzeck’ DVD performed by Opernhaus Zürich. We look forward to further collaborations with Accentus in the new year.

We also had a great year with Dartington – this year’s festival saw musicians, writers and artists of all ages and abilities descend upon the beautiful medieval Dartington estate, to take part in courses, watch and participate in masterclasses, create new works, and attend concerts and performances, of which there were over eighty over the four week period!  We are excited to have the chance to work with them again for their International Summer School and Festival 2017, which promises to be just as, if not even more exciting.


Besides our usual Press and Promotion service, we are also developing a wider range of services. We introduced our full Social Media packages and more Creative Campaigns.

We have recently worked with ECC100, a vinyl-only record label founded by Lush, on their release of ‘Set in Stone‘, music inspired by ancient stone circles in Dorset, UK. As well as a press campaign, we also organised a creative campaign, inviting journalists and bloggers to travel on a journey through their senses, with fragrances created by Gorilla Arthouse, which were inspired by the music from the album, live performance from Simon Richmond and John Metcalfe, and the screening of a film by Patrick Dunn.

Tête à Tête have once again teamed up with the Royal College of Music to present an evening of mini-operas. The next generation of composers and singers have worked closely with Tête à Tête to produce and perform works inspired by Crime & Punishment. This year marks 150 years since Dostoyevsky’s novel was first published, so this is the perfect time to use the story for inspiration.

Composers Algirdas Kraunaitis and Amy Bryce were on Resonance FM’s The Opera Hour yesterday afternoon. Have a listen here to get a gory insight into these two unique mini-operas.

Crime & Punishment is going to be performed tonight and tomorrow (20 and 21 May) in the Britten Theatre, Royal College of Music. Tickets can be purchased for £8 but hurry up as there’s not many left!

Here at WildKat PR, we are very excited to introduce our newest client; acclaimed theatre and opera director, Nina Brazier!

Following first-class training at RADA, Exeter University and Channel 4’s Directors Scheme with The Royal Court, Nina is quickly establishing herself as a leader in her field. She was described by The Observer as ‘One of Britain’s leading young directors of opera.’

She already has a vast array of productions under her belt including Debussy & his Muse at Buxton Festival, as well as productions for Ryedale, Lammermuir, Tête-à-Tête, Grimeborn and Stockholm Interplay Festivals. She has also acted as visiting director at the Royal College of Music, the Italian Opera Summer School, Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Birkbeck University.

We are very much looking forward to working with Nina on her upcoming projects; La Bohème at the Clapham Opera Festival and A Song of Good and Evil at the Nuremberg Palace of Justice. Keep an eye on the WildKat PR blog and Nina’s website and Twitter for updates.

Summer is always a busy time of year in the music world. With the Proms in full flow and festivals popping up everywhere, the past few weeks have been pretty busy for all of us here at WildKat PR too! We wanted to share with you select highlights of what we’ve been up to in our London and Berlin offices…


One of the most exciting events we have been working on this summer is the Tête-à-Tête Opera Festival. With over 100 performances, from Tim Benjamin‘s dark double-bill Life Stories to a flashmob in King’s Cross, it’s no wonder the festival was listed as number one on BBC Music Magazine’s Unmissable Events for August 2015.

Next came Grimeborn and Constella Ballet & Orchestra‘s Clown of Clowns – a circus-themed operatic and balletic spectacular featuring Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire followed by Leo Geyer‘s jazz-inspired Sideshows. Despite the tube strikes, we battled our way across London to the Arcola and are very glad we did, as this show received glowing reviews from audience members and journalists alike.

We were lucky to have two clients performing at this year’s Wilderness Festival, Matthew Sharp and Avi Avital. Matthew’s performance with Opera North was exhilarating, featuring devils and fire dancers and Avi left the audience calling for an encore!

The Mahler Chamber Orchestra has had a busy season at the BBC Proms this year. We were stunned to see the connection between the musicians and the wonderful Leif Ove Andsnes directing from the piano. It was also a very emotional evening since this was the last time they were performing the Beethoven journey together.

And the promming fun didn’t stop in London… We travelled down to the Bristol Proms to see the Sacconi Quartet in Heartfelt – an extraordinary production which allowed audience members to hold a robotic heart or ‘chestahedron’ and monitor the musicians’ heart rates as they performed.

We have also been making the most of £5 promming tickets and particularly enjoyed Prom 35, The Story of Swing – described by Rhian as one of the best concerts she’s ever been to!

And life inside the office has been almost as busy as our concert schedule!

With both the London and Berlin offices recruiting, it has been a month of advertising vacancies, reading CVs and interviewing. Now that the whole process is over, we are pleased to welcome new account manager Anja in Berlin and look forward to Victoria joining us next month.

We have been darting around, accompanying clients to In Tune, Resonance FM and London Live broadcasts, our new in-house photographer has been taking photos at events and we’ve run industry open sessions at Handel House and Guildhall.

We’ve also been travelling further afield, with Carolin in New York with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Sarah in Amsterdam with enoa and Olivia and Carolin off to Switzerland for the Gstaad Menuhin Festival.

It has been a summer of new beginnings, with new and returning clients David Pearl, Constella Ballet & Orchestra, Marina Baranova, Yijia Zhang, Nina Brazier, Katherine Bryan, JSL, Rachael Young, Ensemble Perpetuo, Damian Marhulets, Raymond Yiu, Anneleen Lenaerts and Hideko Udagawa.

We also celebrated the birth of two beautiful babies – Anna’s little girl Greta and Kat and Alan’s baby boy Charlie!

We have a lot of exciting events coming up in the next few weeks, so as always keep an eye on our blog and Twitter for updates!

If you saw ‘Your Call…’ Part 1 in last year’s Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival you’re in for many surprises this year when you see the complete work. Clocking in at about 55 minutes, ‘Your Call…’ has undergone major transformations.

The biggest and most obvious change is the addition of a second Mezzo Soprano. American mezzo Hai-Ting Chinn joins the cast as a second iteration of ‘The Woman.’ Splitting one character between two performers is a reflection on the unreliability of online identity and the ways we can shape our online image, enhancing or subverting reality.

DSCF9417You’ll hear a lot of new music in the complete ‘Your Call…’ Having the second voice much more than doubles the musical possibilities. The second voice enriches and deepens the musical texture in a very dramatic way. Both in speaking and singing they share lines, even splitting individual sentences between them as well as singing together.

The character of ‘The Woman’ has a relationship to technology that is very intense. Her reliance on technology and fear of human-social interactions overwhelm her existence. And we get the sense that she wouldn’t have it any other way. Over and over again she answers a phone, listens and replies, “Oh no, no, no. You’re confusing this one with the other one.” This becomes a real issue for The Woman. Her only interaction with another human always seems to go wrong. She repeatedly retreats to the safety of her phone, even singing, “A friend you can mute is a friend forever.”

Fundamental elements of communication are getting a deeper look as well. The set and props are made of circles, squares and triangles – fundamental elements of visual communication. Made of Boxes, along with many many megaphones, you’ll see circles (end of a megaphone), squares (boxes), and triangles (megaphones on end). The vowels, a, e, i, o, u, fundamental elements of aural communication, are both spoken and sung as well as being presented in sign language and semaphore signals. And then there are the phones, old and new, big and small, everywhere


S-O-S, the universal signal of distress is a recurring refrain, woven throughout ‘Your Call…’ in Morse code, semaphore signals, sign language and within the score itself. Is this an unconscious cry for help? On the surface she doesn’t appear to want any help. Is this a manifestation of concern from the synthetic voices who see how her over-reliance on technology has taken over her external life? Only The Woman knows for sure.

There is a darkness in ‘Your Call…’ that is juxtaposed with broad physical comedy. We hope that you’ll find it as funny as it is disturbing. The character of The Woman makes everyday gestures into a language of their own. She is clearly unaware that she is expressing herself with her body. She doesn’t need to since her only meaningful relationships are online.


The difference between the internal and external is accentuated throughout the new version of ‘Your Call…’ Spoken text is external, an increasingly desperate attempt to understand and be understood. Sung text is internal, fragmented, jumping randomly from thought to thought. The theatrical ‘fourth wall’ is repeatedly shattered in the performance, always with spoken text. What’s said needs to be heard. What’s sung is bouncing around inside her head.

Overall the new ‘Your Call…’ is bigger, funnier, darker, and more thought provoking. It’s a wild ride across a theatrical landscape that starts inside ‘The Woman’s’ head, weaves its way through the internet and lands on the floor of King’s Place, Hall 2.

According to industry body BPI, sales of classical recordings fell by 5% last year and for many, the classical genre continues to carry a certain stigma, which is difficult to shake. It is no secret that classical music hasn’t always found it easy to move with the times. However, recent years have shown a flourish of exciting new material – from fringe opera to flash mobs.

At the forefront of this revolution is contemporary opera festival Tête-à-Tête, which saw its opening night last night at ‘The Place’. The final performance of the evening was composer Tim Benjamin’s Life Stories, produced by Radius. The double-bill featured R.I.P and Silent Jack – two one-act operas based on gripping, dark short stories by Anton Chekhov and Anthony Peter.

Feedback after the performances of Life Stories earlier this month demonstrated the impact that contemporary productions have. With 18% of audience members first-time opera-goers, and 96% giving positive or strongly positive reviews, the possibility for performances such as this to attract a new public is clear.

The Castleton Festival struggles on in Rappahannock County, a year after the death of its founder, Lorin Maazel. The programming is sharply reduced, with jazz taking over from classical music for the final two weeks, and all performances open with pleas for donations.


Marin Alsop to Conduct Cuba’s Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional for Havana’s 500th Anniversary

Perhaps this is one more piece of evidence to support the mended relationship between the United States and Cuba. Marin Alsop, music director of both the Baltimore and São Paulo Symphony Orchestras, will conduct the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Cuba in celebration of Havana’s quincentenary.
