Pianist and Bass Clarinetist

Based in Halifax on Canada’s east coast, Peter-Anthony Togni and Jeff Reilly formed a lasting musical partnership in 1998 after a fateful impromptu practice session in the organ loft of St.Mary’s Cathedral Basilica. After more than two decades together, the duo has since toured the world with The Sanctuary Trio and released concertos for bass clarinet and choir on the German label ECM. They’ve also released string orchestra concertos on Warner Classics and an award winning full-length work for bass clarinet and vocal quartet on Montreal’s ATMA Classique. After much success and palpable musical synergy, Peter-Anthony and Jeff formed the duo Blackwood.

Blackwood are excited to be releasing their debut album Lost and Found this year on September 24th. The release showcases the musical and emotional synergy between the duo, themes such as the natural and human world, and how the duality between the two encapsulates Peter-Anthony and Jeffs’ partnership and shared life experiences. These themes are further embodied in Blackwood’s pieces: “Welcome” and an improvisation of Miles Davis’s iconic “Blue in Green”, both portraying the duo’s musical identity and cementing the album’s ties to Jazz. Their second single on the album, “Lost and Found”, can also be heard on its release on the 27th of August. The duo will also be performing via the web at the Halifax Jazz Festival Virtual on September 24th.

Wildkat is delighted to be working with Blackwood on press and playlisting for the release of Lost and Found.
