Cevanne Horrocks-Hopayian

Cevanne Horrocks-Hopayian is an award-winning British-Armenian composer who composes for and performs with a sweeping range of ensembles, both electronic and acoustic, Eastern and Western, and often seemingly aesthetic opposites. This eclecticism is illustrated in her upcoming debut classical album Welcome Party, to be released on 19 November, 2021 by NMC Recordings. Horrocks-Hopayians’ talent is exemplified in this album, which showcases her ability to combine contrasting themes with a cohesive sense of lyricism, rhythm, storytelling, and boundary-defying voice.

Welcome Party consists of thirteen tracks that form a collection of compositions that gracefully encapsulate creative artistic freedom while grappling with and reconciling feelings of loss, be it loved ones, a home base, or even one’s inspiration. Horrocks-Hopayian initially began composing music during her LSO Sound hub residency, however, due to the global pandemic, progress was abruptly halted. In a turn of events, Horrocks-Hopayian used her current state of domesticity to return her thoughts to the setting of the late Kenyan-born polymath Khadambi Asalache’s home at 575 Wandsworth Road in London. The structural artistic feat fused with helpless self-isolation and the death of family members drove Horrocks-Hopayian to unfounded levels of artistic expression and creativity which birthed her debut classical album: Welcome Party.

Previously, Cevanne has been double-nominated for the 2017 British Composer Awards for ‘Muted Lines’, which is in the album. Elsewhere, Cevanne’s creative endeavours have extended from composing ballets for Birmingham Royal Ballet to being half of the folk electronica duo Crewdson & Cevanne. She is also known for her unique ‘Eye Music’ scores, where visual structures create physical parameters for her composition.

We are delighted to be working with Cevanne Horrocks-Hopayian on a PR campaign for the release of Welcome Party.
