Ville de Nice

French conductor Lionel Bringuier returns to his hometown of Nice at the invitation of the Mayor to lead the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice for Opéra de Nice’s 2019/2020 season.

Lionel has created a carefully curated programme in a venture to extend the opera’s international reach. Lionel has chosen music  by Dukas, Stravinsky, Brahms, Ravel and Shostakovich in a bid to truly stretch this excellent orchestra, and has enlisted world-class soloists including Nicolas Bringuier, Hélène Grimaud and Renaud Capuçon to present these works.

Lionel, who was named Knight of the National Order of Merit by the French government, has had numerous impressive collaborations around the world including the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and the Deutsche Symphonie Orchester Berlin. Currently, Lionel is touring internationally in New Zealand, Korea, and the USA for concerts, and will soon return to the Royal Swedish Opera for a new production of Rigoletto. He has worked alongside world-class artists such as Yuja Wang, and will soon conduct a major European tour as the head of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
