Jonathan Cohen named music director of Les Violons du Roy
Les Violons du Roy has appointed Jonathan Cohen as music director. The British conductor, harpsichordist and cellist will take up the position with the 2018/19 season, continuing until 2021. He will begin serving as designated music director in February 2017, taking over from Bernard Labadie.
Arts Council announces budgets for 2018-2022
Arts Council England is to spend an extra £47m each year on its main funding streams until 2022. The organisation will spend £622m per year for its national portfolio, grants for arts and culture, and strategic funds.
Birmingham Conservatoire to host Reger Centenary Festival
The Reger Centenary Festival will take place 14-18 October at Birmingham Conservatoire. The five-day festival will focus on different aspects of Reger’s compositions and those who influenced him, as well as placing his organ works in the wider context of his chamber and solo music.

Peter Allen, whose nonoperatically light tenor and precise but not pedantic style introduced more than 500 performances for the Metropolitan Opera’s Saturday afternoon radio broadcasts, died on Saturday at his home in Manhattan. He was 96.
