12th March: Semi finalists for the Menuhin Competition, Getatchew Mekurya died & Rosie Lowe calls out record industry misogyny

In today’s news, the Menuhin Competition names violinists for the Semi Finals, Jazz saxophonist Getatchew Mekurya died at age 81 and singer Rosie Lowe comments on the misogynistic record industry.

Menuhin Competition 2016 names 10 violinists through to the Junior Semi Finals

Each of the 10 violinists, aged between 11 and 15, will perform their choice of Beethoven Sonata and a virtuoso work. They will also collaborate with professional musicians in Dvořák’s Terzetto in C for two violins and viola.

AP Møller Foundation has pledged an undisclosed figure of more than DK100m (13.4m) to Royal Danish Opera(RDO) – the single biggest gift in its history.
