BACKGRAMOPHONE AWARDS 2019 SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED
Gramophone have revealed the top three recordings in the ten main categories for the annual Gramophone Classical Music Awards. The category winners will be announced on 1 October before the awards ceremony takes place on 16 October to celebrate outstanding recordings from the past year. The awards are presented this year with Apple Music, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and Medici TV, and they will also acknowledge artists, ensembles and labels that have made contributions to the classical recording industry. Zum Auftakt ihrer ersten Spielzeit am Schauspiel hat Sonja Anders ein Science-Fiction-Stück ausgewählt. Die neue Chefin der Oper, Laura Berman, startet einen Tag später mit «La Juive» (Die Jüdin). Beide Inszenierungen sind auch Kommentare zur politischen Situation. Im Theater dominierten über Jahrhunderte die Männer – sowohl auf der Bühne als auch in der Regie. Das Staatstheater Hannover hingegen trägt von dieser Spielzeit an eine weibliche Handschrift. Erstmals übernahmen mit Laura Berman für die Oper und Sonja Anders für das Schauspiel zwei Frauen die künstlerische Leitung. Und die Intendantinnen haben schon einige Änderungen auf den Weg gebracht. «Häufig werden Regisseurinnen eher für die kleinen Spielorte geholt, während Regisseure die großen Bühnen bespielen», sagte Anders, die zuvor Chefdramaturgin am Deutschen Theater Berlin war. «Diese unsinnige Verteilung versuchen wir gezielt zu durchbrechen.»

Sonja Anders has chosen a sci-fi piece to kick off her first season at the Schauspiel. The new boss of the opera, Laura Berman, starts one day later with «La Juive» (The Jewess). Both productions are also comments on the political situation. Over the centuries, men dominated the theater – both on stage and in directing. The Staatstheater Hannover, however, bears female handwriting from this season. For the first time, two women took over the artistic direction with Laura Berman for the opera and Sonja Anders for the drama. And the directors have already made some changes. “Often directors are fetched more for the small venues, while directors play on the big stages,” said Anders, who was previously head dramaturge at the Deutsches Theater Berlin. “We deliberately try to break through this nonsensical distribution.“
Danny Elfman: le compositeur fétiche de Tim Burton à l’honneur à la Philharmonie
Le compositeur fétiche de Tim Burton et de Sam Raimi est l’invité d’honneur de la Philharmonie de Paris, qui en ce début de saison lui consacre tout un week-end. L’occasion, pour le compositeur, d’annoncer quelques projets classiques en cours (un concerto pour violoncelle pour Gautier Capuçon, un autre pour percussions pour Colin Currie, ainsi qu’un grand oratorio pour orchestre symphonique, guitares électriques et chœurs). Et pour la Philharmonie de rappeler l’importance prise par les ciné-concerts dans sa programmation, avec deux séances d’Alice au pays des merveilles, telle que revisitée par Burton en 2010. Avec, pour en porter toutes les couleurs cinématographiques, un orchestre français passé maître dans la musique de film: l’Orchestre national d’Île-de-France, pour l’occasion placé sous la baguette du chef John Mauceri.
Danny Elfman: Tim Burton’s favourite composer honored at the Philharmonic
The favourite composer of Tim Burton and Sam Raimi is the guest of honour of the Philharmonie de Paris, which is dedicating a whole weekend to him at the beginning of the season. This was an opportunity for the composer to announce some ongoing classical projects (a cello concerto for Gautier Capuçon, another for percussion for Colin Currie, as well as a grand oratorio for symphony orchestra, electric guitars and choirs). And for the Philharmonie to recall the importance of film-concerts in its programming, with two Alice in Wonderland sessions, as revisited by Burton in 2010. With, to carry all the cinematographic colours, a French orchestra that has become a master in film music: the Orchestre national d’Île-de-France, for the occasion under the baton of conductor John Mauceri.
