In today’s classical news, University of St Andrews is to reveal plans for a new music centre later this month. A charity has launched a research project and announced funding to support up to 20 postgraduate students on the investigation of music that were written during the Holocaust. Violinist Augustin Hadelich is the first prize winner of Indianapolis Competition. Anipo, a French organisation is encouraging musicians to fit electronic chips to their instruments and bows and register them with the network in order to fight instrument thefts. Also, an “opera without voices” for Syria, and the Elbphilharmonie’s small hall is compared to a cave.
