The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) have announced that they will travel by train, rather than plane, for their upcoming tour to Poland and Hungary as part of their commitment to becoming carbon neutral. Orchestral touring is the most significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in the sector, with aviation contributing to 2% of the world’s global carbon emissions. By choosing to travel by train, the OAE will reduce their CO2e impact by over 15,000 metric tonnes. ‘I am very proud to be part of an organisation that is prepared to hold its hands up, come clean and account responsibly for the impact of its activity,’ says OAE chief executive Crispin Woodhead. ‘We have undertaken a thorough analysis of our carbon impact in the current 19-20 season and we are determined to make positive changes. It’s a case of actions speaking louder than words.’

Seit längerem ist in Bonn die Sanierung der Oper im Gespräch: Ende 2018 wurde ein entsprechender Plan vorgestellt, der außerdem das Schauspiel, die Theaterwerkstätten sowie eine aus Holz errichtete Interimsspielstätte mit einschließt. Alternativ könnte das Haus abgerissen und am bisherigen Standort ein Neubau als Einspartenhaus gebaut werden. Saniert man dazu noch die anderen Häuser des Theaters Bonn, Godesberg und Beuel, käme man laut Stadtverwaltung auf Kosten in Höhe von rund 161 Millionen Euro. Das dazu geplante Bürgerbeteiligungsverfahren fand bislang allerdings noch nicht statt und auch im Stadtrat kam es noch zu keiner Enscheidung. Oberbürgermeister Ashok Sridharan gab an, zuvor die Sanierung der Beethovenhalle auszuwerten, bei welcher sowohl Kosten- als auch Zeitrahmen nicht eingehalten werden konnten.
Bonn Opera: Ailing facade crumbles

The citizen participation process planned for this has not yet taken place and no decision has yet been made in the city council. Mayor Ashok Sridharan previously stated that the renovation of the Beethoven Hall had to be evaluated, in which both the cost and time frames could not be met.
