In today’s classical news round-up, Pittsburgh Symphony cancelled more shows due to the ongoing strike of its musicians. An English cello bow by James Tubbs, which was presumed to have been in the possession of Jacqueline du Pré, has been withdrawn from auction due to a lack of ‘confidence’ in its provenance. The 15th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition, which is currently taking place in Poland, has announced its 13 semi-finalists. Due to the ongoing strike by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra musicians, additional symphony concerts through Nov. 18 have been canceled. The musicians’ union went on strike last month after unanimously rejecting calls for 15 percent pay cuts.

An English cello bow by James Tubbs, ‘presumed to have been in the possession of Jacqueline du Pré’, has been withdrawn from auction due to a lack of ‘confidence’ in its provenance. The bow was to be sold by Tarisio in London this October with a sale price estimate of £20,000-£30,000.

Glyndebourne has announced the winners of two new biennial awards for young singers, launched to mark 30 years since the creation of its education department.
