The Royal Opera House (ROH) has renewed its partnership with BP for a further five years. The relationship between the two companies, which began in 1989, will now continue until 2023.

A little over 10 years ago, in May 2006, David Bowie gave his last ever UK performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall. He only graced the stage for 15 minutes, as the special guest of David Gilmour, singing the Pink Floyd classics Arnold Layne and Comfortably Numb.

Einojuhani Rautavaara (1928-2016)
The leading Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara has died at the age of 87. One of the most frequently performed of all Finnish composers, Rautavaara was seen as the heir to Sibelius, who in 1955 recommended him for the Koussevitzky Scholarship to study in America.

Am 28. Juli wurde der italienische Dirigent Riccardo Muti 75 Jahre alt. 1981 gab er 40-jährig mit dem Verdi-Requiem sein Debüt beim Chor und Symphonieorchester des BR. Seither kehrt er regelmäßig nach München zurück – zuletzt am 17. und 18. Dezember 2015 mit Werken von Schubert und Cherubini.

Der mit 10.000 Euro dotierte Berlin-Rheinsberger-Kompositionspreis geht in diesem Jahr an die in Berlin lebende Komponistin Olga Rayeva. Mit der Auszeichnung verbunden ist für die gebürtige Moskauerin auch die Aufführung eines neuen Werkes in Rheinsberg und Berlin sowie eine Edition des Werkes beim Hofmeister-Musikverlag.
