ISM launches post-Brexit survey for musicians

The Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) has today (Tuesday 4 February 2020) launched a survey in order to gather vital evidence allowing musicians the opportunity to have their say on the Government’s future trade negotiations between the UK, the EU and other countries.‘Be part of the post-Brexit negotiations’ will run from today until Monday 9 March and will ask musicians for their views on what needs to be included in future trade deals.In addition to capturing further data on the impact of Brexit on working in the EU, musicians will be asked about the realities of travelling and working in non-EU countries, particularly the USA, China, Japan and India, looking at everything from mobility and visas to the movement of instruments and equipment, tax, social security and healthcare.

Doch kein Orden für al Sisi

Weil die Ausrichter des Semperopernballs den ägyptischen Staatschef mit einem Orden auszeichneten, hagelte es Kritik. Moderatoren und Laudatoren sagten ab. Nun zieht der Verein den Orden für al Sisi zurück.
Der Dresdner Semperopernball-Verein macht die umstrittene Verleihung seines St. Georgs Ordens an Ägyptens Präsidenten Abdel Fattah al-Sisi rückgängig. Die Auszeichnung werde ihm wieder aberkannt, das habe Ballchef Hans-Joachim Frey nach einem Treffen mit Rocksänger Peter Maffay am Dienstag entschieden, sagte Pressesprecher Holger Zastrow der Deutschen Presse-Agentur. Darüber hatte zuerst „saechsische.de“ berichtet. Maffay, der für den Mitternachts-Act beim Ball gebucht ist, hat auf die Aberkennung bestanden. Angaben dazu, wie das erfolgen soll, machte Zastrow nicht.

No medal for al Sisi

Because the organizers of the Semperoperball awarded the Egyptian head of state with an medal, there was criticism. Moderators and laudators canceled. Now the association withdraws the medal for al Sisi.
The Dresden Semperopera Ball Foundation reverses the controversial awarding of its St. George medal to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The award will be revoked, ball manager Hans-Joachim Frey decided after a meeting with rock singer Peter Maffay on Tuesday, said press spokesman Holger Zastrow of the German Press Agency. “Saechsische.de” reported about this first. Maffay, who is booked for the midnight act at the ball, has insisted on the withdrawal. Zastrow did not provide information on how this should be done.

Disparition de David Kessler, une vie dédiée à la culture

L’émotion est grande dans le monde de la culture depuis l’annonce de la disparition de David Kessler, qui nous a quittés le lundi 3 février à à l’âge de 60 ans, à son domicile parisien. Ancien directeur de France Culture, son érudition et sa bienveillance sont aujourd’hui largement saluées.
Agrégé de philosophie et énarque de la promotion Liberté Egalité Fraternité, David Kessler a été conseiller culture auprès de Lionel Jospin Premier ministre (1997-2001), de Bertrand Delanoë maire de Paris et du président François Hollande. À la tête de France Culture de 2005 à 2008, il a également dirigé le Centre national de la cinématographie, le Centre national de l’audiovisuel, le magazine culturel les Inrockuptibles et le Conseil supérieur des musiques actuelles. Il était directeur depuis 2014 d’Orange Content, division « contenus » de l’opérateur de télécoms.

Death of David Kessler, a life dedicated to culture

Emotions have been running high in the world of culture since the announcement of the death of David Kessler, who passed away on Monday 3 February at the age of 60, at his Parisian home. Former director of France Culture, his erudition and benevolence are now widely acclaimed.
David Kessler was a philosophy graduate and enarch of the Liberté Egalité Fraternité (Freedom, Equality, Fraternity) promotion, and was cultural advisor to Lionel Jospin, Prime Minister (1997-2001), Bertrand Delanoë, Mayor of Paris, and President François Hollande. At the head of France Culture from 2005 to 2008, he also directed the Centre national de la cinématographie, the Centre national de l’audiovisuel, the cultural magazine les Inrockuptibles and the Conseil supérieur des musiques actuelles. Since 2014, he has been Director of Orange Content, the telecoms operator’s content division.
