Equity to ramp up pressure on opera funding in wake of ENO furore
Arts Council England is to face renewed pressure over its funding of opera, after performers called for increased efforts to protect the genre’s subsidy. The call, at Equity’s Annual Representative Conference, comes in the wake of the dispute at English National Opera, where earlier this year chorus members threatened to strike over cuts to their contracts, enacted by ENO management in response to a £5 million drop in subsidy from ACE.

Israeli cellist Daniel Hass has won the 2016 Stulberg International String Competition in Kalamazoo, MI, US. The 18-year-old, who currently studies with Joel Krosnick at the Juilliard School, received the gold medal, $6,000 and engagements with orchestras across America.
