Yannick Nézét-Séguin to take over at New York Met
Yannick Nézét-Séguin has been named as the next music director of New York’s Metropolitan Opera. The Canadian conductor, 41, will succeed James Levine, 72, who stepped down last month due to ill health.

European Union Youth Orchestra secures short-term funding
Following an international campaign, the future of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) has been secured, at least in the short term. It was announced on 1 June by Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission, that a resolution had been passed to ensure the ensemble would continue to exist.

Big donation for Detroit Symphony
Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) – which brands itself as ‘the world’s most accessible orchestra’ – has received a USD2.9m (€2.6m) donation for education projects. It is the largest bequest DSO has received in over a decade, and ensures the short-term future of its education and outreach efforts.
