Teenage tenor saves the day at Three Choirs Festival opening night
18-year-old tenor Magnus Walker made his debut as a Three Choirs soloist in a performance of Elgar’s The Kingdom on the festival’s opening night. Currently a tenor choral scholar at Gloucester Cathedral, Walker stepped in at just a few hours’ notice when James Oxley lost his voice on the morning of the concert.
Musicians create art in aid of Youth Music
Paintings by leading musicians and bands are to be sold in aid of Youth Music and Children & the Arts. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ Images of a Woman (1966), Eazl has invited musicians to create their own Images of… paintings.

The BBC has announced more details about its new series All Together Now: The Great Orchestra Challenge, in which five amateur orchestras compete to be crowned Britain’s most inspirational amateur orchestra.

David Bowie musical Lazarus to open in London
Lazarus, a new stage musical featuring the songs of David Bowie, is to open in London this autumn.
Inspired by the book, The Man Who Fell To Earth, the show premiered last November in New York Theatre Workshop – just a few weeks before Bowie’s death in January.

Classical music contest encourages young talent
Nagpur: To discover new talent in classical vocal and instrumental music, South Central Cultural Zone has organized a competition for young musicians in age group of 18 to 35 years. The contest was started last year to coincide with Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Smriti Sangeet Samaroh and was limited to five states that the centre represents.
