The British conductor Martyn Brabbins is to take over as the new music director of the English National Opera, in the latest attempt to revive the beleaguered company. The respected conductor takes over from Mark Wigglesworth as company seeks stability after two years of cuts and crises.

It’s 37 years since Peter Shaffer’s play Amadeus was first seen on stage and it’s now widely accepted as a modern classic. Now Lucian Msamati and Adam Gillen are bringing the play back to its original home in London. And this time there’s an orchestra too.

New concert series celebrates B.C. composers
There’s a new place in Vancouver’s West End dedicated to teaching more of us about contemporary Canadian classical composers. The Canadian Music Centre in B.C. opened in 1959. Its mission is to promote the ever-changing world of new classical music in the country. The organisation recently moved to its new home in the heart of Davie Village.

The big issue between management and the musicians has been an argument over dollars. Musicians say there are three key items that led to the strike; management requesting they take a 15-percent pay cut, changes to pensions and a freeze on three openings.
