On 5 April, Decca Records/Universal team up with Globe, Netflix and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to release the powerfully moving soundtrack to upcoming series Our Planet.
From the creator of Planet Earth, and narrated by the inimitable Sir David Attenborough, the new eight-part Netflix original documentary series explores the current issues facing the sustainability of life on earth. Academy award-winning composer Steven Price has developed a richly thematic score across the eight films that provides a unified soundtrack to the series, performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London.
Known for speaking up on behalf of the planet and its species, Grammy-nominated singer Ellie Goulding was first to be approached by Price to develop the original track, In This Together. Describing the project, she commented: ‘It’s a series that simultaneously wakes you up to the emergency but also instils wonderment. Watch it, and you will never take the earth for granted again.
’The release marks a month of increased awareness about the natural world, culminating in Earth Day on 22 April.

Jagger-inspired ballet makes debut
A new short ballet inspired by Mick Jagger has had its world premiere in Russia. Porte Rouge makes use of both Jagger’s dance style and his music, and was choreographed by his partner Melanie Hamrick.
Staged at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, Porte Rouge saw dancers from New York City Ballet (including Hamrick) recreating Jagger’s distinctive jerky movements. The eight-minute piece featured Rolling Stones tracks Paint it Black, Sympathy for the Devil and She’s a Rainbow, which Jagger himself edited together.
The piece was part of a night of works by young choreographers, with works by Vladimir Shklyarov, Yuri Smekalov and Ilya Zhivoi also featured. Daniel Ulbricht, Erica Pereira, Igor Kolb and Roman Malyshev completed Hamrick’s cast.

Musikhochschule Würzburg gründet Förderzentrum für Musiktalente
Das ist einmalig in Bayern: An der Würzburger Hochschule für Musik hat sich das “Zentrum für musikalische Exzellenzförderung” gegründet. Ziel ist es, musikalisch außerordentlich begabte Kinder und Jugendliche frühzeitig und optimal zu fördern.
Bei der Gründungsfeier am Vormittag war unter anderem Bayerns Wissenschaftsminister Bernd Sibler (CSU) dabei. Damit ist nun eine Einrichtung am Start, die einmalig ist im Freistaat. In anderen Bundesländern sind bereits ähnliche Förderprogramme etabliert.
Kern der Exzellenzförderung ist der Austausch zwischen der Würzburger Hochschule für Musik und dem musischen Matthias-Grünewald-Gymnasium. Besondere Talente werden frühzeitig im sogenannten Exzellenzzweig gefördert und können bei entsprechenden Leistungen ans PreCollege der Hochschule wechseln. Zur besonderen Förderung gehören unter anderem spezieller Einzelunterricht, vielfältige Auftrittsmöglichkeiten, Mitwirkung in verschiedenen Ensembles oder Workshops mit Künstlern.

This is unique in Bavaria: the “Centre for the Promotion of Musical Excellence” was founded at the Würzburg University of Music. The aim is to promote musically exceptionally gifted children and young people at an early age and in the best possible way.
