BACKYo-Yo Ma performs at US-Mexico border
Famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma performed a 15-minute excerpt from Bach’s Cello Suites on the border between United States and Mexico. He was joined by city leadership from both Laredo, Texas and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.
The performance, part of Ma’s The Bach Project, was free of charge and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Ma performed on the Gateway bridge before crossing to Nuevo Laredo, where he met with music students and encouraged conversation in Laredo Center for the Arts about culture and connection.
Ma hopes his performance will emphasise the similarities between the two countries during a time when tension between America and Mexico is at an all-time high.
Music at Paxton festival returns for 2019
Music at Paxton, a summer festival of international chamber music, takes place in Paxton House on the banks of the River Tweed in the Scottish borders from 19 – 28 July 2019.
Winners of the 2017 Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition, the Maxwell Quartet, have been announced as the Music at Paxton Associate Ensemble for the years 2019 – 2021.

Bach mit Weitsicht
Die Internetplattform „Bachipedia“ sammelt umfassende Inhalte und Informationen zu Bachs Kantaten und stellt sie kostenlos zur Verfügung.
Johann Sebastian Bach hat über 200 Kantaten geschrieben – und die J.S. Bach-Stiftung St. Gallen möchte sie alle aufführen. Das allein ist schon bemerkenswert, doch die Stiftung hat noch ein weitaus größeres Ziel vor Augen: Auf ihrer Internetplattform „Bachipedia“ sammelt sie alle Informationen, die sie rund um eine Kantate erforscht und publiziert hat, darunter auch Ton- & Bildaufnahmen ihrer Konzerte, Werkeinführungen sowie Reflexionen. Dieses gesammelte Wissen stellt sie kostenlos auf „Bachipedia“ zur Verfügung.
2006 erklang die erste Kantate – seitdem geben Chor und Orchester der J.S. Bach-Stiftung einmal im Monat ein Kantatenkonzert. Halten sie diesen Rhythmus durch, dann dürfte auch ihr Gesamtvorhaben, das komplette Vokalwerk von Bach aufzuführen, im Jahr 2027 abgeschlossen sein.

The internet platform “Bachipedia” collects comprehensive content and information about Bach’s cantatas and makes them available free of charge.
Johann Sebastian Bach has written over 200 cantatas – and the J.S. Bach Foundation St. Gallen wants to perform them all. This alone is remarkable, but the Foundation has a much bigger goal in mind: on its “Bachipedia” Internet platform, it collects all the information it has researched and published about a cantata, including sound and image recordings of its concerts, work introductions as well as reflections. This collected knowledge is available for free on “Bachipedia”.
