The inaugural Choral Director Lifetime Achievement Award from the Musicians’ Company has been awarded to Sir Stephen Cleobury CBE.
This new award honours an area the company has not recognised before despite the company’s roots and strong connections with the choral traditions of the country. The award recognises the contribution that Cleobury has made in the 37 years that he has been organist and director of music at King’s College, Cambridge and before that, as sub organist of Westminster Abbey and master of music at Westminster Cathedral. He was also chief conductor of the BBC Singers for 12 years and is now their conductor laureate.
