BACKYamaha unveils AI piano system
Yamaha has unveiled its first comprehensive AI piano system at the Ars Electronica Festival 2019 in Linz, Austria
Comprising a Yamaha Disklavier player piano driven by special software designed to think for itself, the AI system used ‘deep learning’ to mimic the performance style of eccentric Canadian pianist Glenn Gould. The project, dubbed ‘Dear Glenn’, has been developed with support from the Glenn Gould Foundation.
Over 100 hours of Gould’s recordings were analysed by the system to achieve its feat. In addition, Yamaha examined the performances of several other pianists known to be exponents of Gould’s style.
José Carreras sagt Abschiedskonzert in Hong Kong ab
Der spanische Tenor José Carreras hat das Konzert seiner Abschiedstournee in Hong Kong abgesagt. Grund für den Ausfall sind die anhaltenden Unruhen in der chinesischen Sonderverwaltungszone und die dadurch verursachten Sicherheitsprobleme für Künstler und Mitarbeiter. Die Veranstalter gaben den Ausfall kurzfristig bekannt.
José Carreras cancels farewell concert in Hong Kong
The Spanish tenor José Carreras has cancelled the concert of his farewell tour in Hong Kong. The reason for the cancellation is the continuing unrest in the Chinese special administrative zone and the resulting security problems for artists and employees. The organizers announced the cancellation at short notice.
La Philharmonie rend hommage à Pierre Henry
La Philharmonie de Paris qui propose du 20 au 24 novembre un « week-end Pierre Henry ». Au programme, des concerts inédits avec, bien entendu, l’incontournable « Messe pour le temps présent » dans la chorégraphie de Béjart et Hervé Robbe mais dans une version remixée, ainsi que « Le Carnet de Venise » créé en 2003 lors de la Folle journée de Nantes, en 1ère audition à Paris. Toute en démesure, sa 10e Symphonie (hommage/déconstruction des 9 symphonies de Beethoven, créée en 1979), interprétée samedi soir par deux orchestres, deux chœurs dirigés par trois chefs d’orchestre. Autour de ces représentations musicales, des « spectacles en famille » au cours desquels petits et grands seront conviés à partager la composition, en direct par 3 musiciens, d’œuvres inspirées des sonorités imaginées par Pierre Henry. Des rencontres avec le chorégraphe Hervé Robbe, Thierry Maniguet, conservateur du Musée de la musique, Bernadette Mangin, l’assistante musicale de Pierre Henry et Isabelle Warnier, veuve de Pierre Henry, ex-danseuse et directrice de l’association Son-Re (sauvegarde et de rayonnement du Fonds musical de l’œuvre de Pierre Henry) ainsi que des discussions avec des spécialistes autour de l’œuvre du génial compositeur.
The Philharmonic pays tribute to Pierre Henry
The Philharmonie de Paris, which is offering a “Pierre Henry weekend” from 20 to 24 November. On the program, new concerts with, of course, the inevitable “Messe pour le temps présent” in the choreography of Béjart and Hervé Robbe but in a remixed version, as well as “Le Carnet de Venise” created in 2003 during the Folle journée de Nantes, in 1st audition in Paris. In all excess, his 10th Symphony (homage / deconstruction of Beethoven’s 9 symphonies, premiered in 1979), performed Saturday evening by two orchestras, two choirs conducted by three conductors. Around these musical performances, “family shows” during which young and old will be invited to share the composition, live by 3 musicians, of works inspired by the sounds imagined by Pierre Henry. Meetings with choreographer Hervé Robbe, Thierry Maniguet, curator of the Musée de la musique, Bernadette Mangin, musical assistant to Pierre Henry and Isabelle Warnier, widow of Pierre Henry, former dancer and director of the association Son-Re (safeguarding and promotion of the Fonds musical de l’œuvre de Pierre Henry) as well as discussions with specialists about the work of the brilliant composer.
