BACKSimone Young takes top job in Sydney
Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO) has hired one of its own as its next chief conductor: Simone Young. Born in Sydney, she will return to her hometown and take up the post in 2022.
It will be the first major job she’s held in Australia; however, her CV includes top European appointments. She spent 10 years as artistic director of the Hamburg State Opera and music director of the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, while currently she is principal guest conductor of the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra. She was also the first woman to conduct at the Vienna State Opera back in 1993.

Der Deutsche Bühnenverein wird Mitglied des Deutschen Musikrates
Der Deutsche Bühnenverein wurde 1846 gegründet und hat seinen Sitz in Köln. Er vertritt die Interessen seiner derzeit 470 Mitglieder vor allem aus der Theater- und Musiktheaterszene. Zu seinen Mitgliedern gehören auch öffentlich-rechtliche Rundfunkanstalten und andere Institutionen als außerordentliche Mitglieder sowie Intendantinnen und Intendanten als persönliche Mitglieder. Der Bühnenverein, der sich in einen Bundesverband und acht Landesverbände gliedert, hat das Ziel, die Vielfalt der Theater- und Orchesterlandschaft zu erhalten, zu fördern und zu pflegen. Dafür ist er etwa beratend an Gesetzgebungsverfahren von Bund und Ländern beteiligt, beschäftigt sich mit Fragen der Entwicklung der Theatersparten, aber auch mit Themen wie Publikumsgewinnung, Finanzierung und der Öffentlichkeitsarbeit von Theatern und Orchestern.
The Deutscher Bühnenverein becomes a member of the Deutscher Musikrat
The Deutsche Bühnenverein was founded in 1846 and is based in Cologne. It represents the interests of its currently 470 members, primarily from the theatre and music theatre scene. Its members also include public service broadcasters and other institutions as extraordinary members and artistic directors as private members. The stage association, which is divided into a federal association and eight regional associations, aims to preserve, promote and maintain the diversity of the theatre and orchestra landscape. For this purpose, it is involved, as an adviser in federal and state legislative procedures, deals with issues relating to the development of theatrical sections, but also with topics such as attracting audiences, financing and the public relations of theatres and orchestras.
Tugan Sokhiev reste à Toulouse jusqu’à l’été 2021
Le maire de la ville de Toulouse, Jean-Luc Moudenc, « prolonge le contrat de Tugan Sokhiev (…) pour une saison », à la tête de l’Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse indique un communiqué, le jeudi 19 décembre 2019. Nommé à ce poste en 2008, Tugan Sokhiev est également directeur musical du Bolchoï de Moscou depuis 2014. Le Capitole de Toulouse avait renouvelé une première fois son contrat en 2016, pour une durée de 4 ans. « Attaché à Toulouse », le chef d’orchestre « développe une relation privilégiée avec ses musiciens et a contribué à faire de l’Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse l’une des formations les plus reconnues sur la scène musicale internationale », selon la mairie.

The mayor of the city of Toulouse, Jean-Luc Moudenc, “extends Tugan Sokhiev’s contract (…) for one season”, at the head of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, said in a press release on Thursday 19 December 2019. Appointed to this position in 2008, Tugan Sokhiev has also been Music Director of the Bolshoi in Moscow since 2014. The Capitole de Toulouse renewed his contract for the first time in 2016, for a period of 4 years. “Attached to Toulouse”, the conductor “develops a privileged relationship with his musicians and has helped make the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse one of the most recognized formations on the international music scene”, according to the town hall.
