BACKPhilharmonia marks 75th anniversary in Japan
Kicking off celebrations for its 75th anniversary year this month, the Philharmonia Orchestra is taking up residency at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre as part of a five-concert Japan tour, supported by Citi. Artistic director Esa-Pekka Salonen will conduct the orchestra in five programmes from 23 – 29 January 2020, featuring music by Stravinsky, Mahler and Shostakovich alongside two of his own premieres, the Cello Concerto and Gemini. The orchestra will be joined by soloists Sayaka Shoji (violin) and Truls Mørk (cello).
Ernst von Siemens Stiftung startet neuen Förderpreis für Ensembles
Die Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung führt einen neuen jährlichen Förderpreis für Ensembles ein. Mit dem Preis sollen junge Ensembles möglichst individuell und nachhaltig in ihrer künstlerischen und strukturellen Weiterentwicklung unterstützt werden. Ab diesem Jahr werden jährlich 150.000 € vergeben, zwei Ensembles sollen jeweils bis zu 75.000 € erhalten. Die Bewerbungsphase startet im Februar. Bewerben können sich professionelle Ensembles, die sich ausschließlich dem zeitgenössischen Repertoire widmen, Voraussetzung ist, dass zwei Drittel seiner Mitglieder jünger als 35 Jahre als sind.

The Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung launches a new prize for ensembles that will be awarded yearly, starting in 2020. With this prize young ensembles will be supported in der artistic and structural development. Starting in 2020 150.000 € will be awardred every year. Two ensembles can get up to 75.000 € of financial support. The application phase starts in February and is open to all professional ensembles that focus exclusively on contemporary repertoire and that have at least two thirds of members under 35 years old.
Tugan Sokhiev et Franz Welser-Möst remplaceront Mariss Jansons au Festival de Salzbourg
Pour le 100e anniversaire du Festival de Salzbourg qui se déroulera du 18 juillet au 29 août, les responsables de l’événement ont été contraints de remplacer Mariss Jansons qui devait diriger 4 concerts lors de cette édition. Un hommage sera d’ailleurs rendu au chef d’orchestre letton qui, selon la direction du festival « a apporté tant de merveilleux cadeaux musicaux au festival pendant 3 décennies ». Ce sont donc Franz Welser-Möst et Tugan Sokhiev qui remplaceront Mariss Jansons l’été prochain à Salzbourg.
Tugan Sokhiev and Franz Welser-Möst to replace Mariss Jansons at the Salzburg Festival
For the 100th anniversary of the Salzburg Festival, which will take place from 18 July to 29 August, the people in charge of the event have been forced to replace Mariss Jansons, who was to conduct 4 concerts during this edition. A tribute will be paid to the Latvian conductor who, according to the festival management, “has brought so many wonderful musical gifts to the festival for three decades”. Franz Welser-Möst and Tugan Sokhiev will replace Mariss Jansons next summer in Salzburg.
