BACKJack Liebeck takes up new posts in London and Australia
British violinist Jack Liebeck has accepted the position of ‘Émile Sauret Professor of Violin’ at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) in London, a role created especially for him by the college.
Liebeck is a former student of the RAM and serves on the faculty as professor of violin. In the new ‘named professor’ role he will be involved in the development and delivery of the academy’s degree programme, and will participate in auditioning, examining and coaching. He will also act as an ambassador for the college, championing its string teaching and developing links between the teachers and potential students.
The professorship is named after Émile Sauret (22 May 1852 – 12 February 1920), recognised as one of the most significant influences on the development of violin pedagogy. He taught at the Royal Academy of Music at the turn of the 19th century and had a distinguished performing and composing career.
Liebeck will begin his new professorship by giving a violin masterclass on 13 January at RAM’s Angela Burgess Recital Hall at 4pm.

Wer einen Orden oder ein Ehrenzeichen des Landes erhält, muss sich dieser Auszeichnung ein Leben lang würdig erweisen. 2012 hat der Tiroler Landtag das Landes-Auszeichnungsgesetz dahingehend geändert und die Möglichkeit der nachträglichen Aberkennung verankert. „Die Verleihung einer Auszeichnung kann mit Bescheid der Landesregierung widerrufen werden, wenn später Tatsachen bekannt werden, die einer Verleihung entgegengestanden wären, oder die ausgezeichnete Person nachträglich ein Verhalten setzt, das einer Verleihung entgegenstünde”, heißt es dazu.
Im Zusammenhang mit der Ordensverleihung an den ehemaligen kroatischen Ministerpräsidenten Ivo Sanader hat die Regierung 2014 ein Aberkennungsverfahren eingeleitet. Sanader wurde damals wegen Korruption zu einer langjährigen Haftstrafe verurteilt. Sanader gab dann den Tiroler Adler-Orden von sich aus zurück und kam damit einem Widerruf zuvor. Die Affäre um den ehemaligen Landtagspräsidenten Helmut Mader löste 2015 ebenfalls eine Debatte aus, hatte er doch nach seinem Ausscheiden aus der Politik 2008 die höchste Auszeichnung des Landes erhalten: den Ehrenring. Auch Mader verzichtete in der Folge auf den Ring des Landes.

Whoever receives a medal or medal of honor from the country must prove worthy of this award for a lifetime. In 2012, the Tyrolean state parliament changed the state award law to this effect and anchored the possibility of subsequent revocation. “The awarding of an award can be revoked with a notice from the state government if facts become known later that would have been an obstacle to the honour, or if the awarded person subsequently acts in a way that would be contrary to the award,” it says.
In 2014, the government initiated a withdrawal procedure for the former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader. Sanader was sentenced to a long term in prison for corruption. Sanader then returned the Tyrolean Eagle Order on his own initiative and thus avoided a revocation. The affair with the former President of the state parliament, Helmut Mader, also sparked a debate in 2015, after he had received the country’s highest award in 2008 after leaving politics: the Ring of Honor. As a result, Mader also renounced the honorary ring.
Renaud Capuçon investit dans une start-up musicale
Le violoniste a décidé d’entrer dans le capital de NomadPlay, une application qui permet d’effacer n’importe quel musicien dans un enregistrement musical et, ainsi, de pouvoir répéter avec le reste de l’orchestre. Emballé par une technologie qu’il a pu tester lors du dernier festival de Pâques d’Aix-en-Provence, Renaud Capuçon a décidé d’investir personnellement dans la start-up musicale NomadPlay : « J’ai testé l’application sur un concerto de Ravel » précise le violoniste. « Tous les jeunes instrumentistes jouent avec des disques pour avoir l’impression d’avoir un orchestre derrière eux. C’était comme un rêve de gamin qui se réalisait. C’est ma première participation dans une entreprise. J’aime l’aventure. C’est un projet brillant». Le montant de son investissement n’a pas été révélé mais il s’inscrit dans une levée de fonds de 4,2 millions d’euros (avec le Crédit Mutuel innovation et la Banque des territoires).
Renaud Capuçon invests in a music start-up company
The violinist decided to enter the capital of NomadPlay, an application that allows to delete any musician in a musical recording and, thus, to be able to rehearse with the rest of the orchestra. Thrilled by a technology he was able to test during the last Easter festival in Aix-en-Provence, Renaud Capuçon decided to invest personally in the musical start-up NomadPlay: “I tested the application on a Ravel concerto”, says the violinist. “All the young instrumentalists play with records to feel like they have an orchestra behind them. It was like a kid’s dream come true. This is my first participation in a company. I like adventure. It’s a brilliant project”. The amount of his investment has not been revealed but it is part of a 4.2 million euro fund raising (with the Crédit Mutuel innovation and the Banque des territoires).
