BACKYuja Wang cancels European tour
Yuja Wang has announced the cancellation of her European recital tour due to ongoing COVID-19 preventative measures.
Six of her concerts had been cancelled by venues in mainland Europe following restrictions brought in by Governments relating to the coronavirus, making it impossible for her to continue the tour, which included a concert at the Barbican on 31 March.
The Barbican has confirmed that ticket holders will receive a full refund, and that they will be working with Yuja Wang to reschedule the concert in the future.

Angesichts der Absage von Kulturveranstaltungen und des spürbaren Besucherrückgangs wegen des Coronavirus hat Kulturstaatsministerin Monika Grütters sich hinter die Kultureinrichtungen, Künstlerinnen und Künstler gestellt: „Mir ist bewusst, dass diese Situation eine große Belastung für die Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft bedeutet und insbesondere kleinere Einrichtungen und freie Künstlerinnen und Künstler in erhebliche Bedrängnis bringen kann“, sagte Grütters.
Die Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien empfiehlt bundesgeförderten Kultureinrichtungen, sich an den Hinweisen des Robert-Koch-Instituts zu orientieren. Danach sind größere Veranstaltungen abzusagen, insbesondere solche, die in begrenzten Räumlichkeiten stattfinden. Bei kleineren Veranstaltungen müsse man sich mit Blick auf die Umstände des Einzelfalls fragen, ob eine Durchführung verantwortbar ist.
„Wir erkennen in dieser Situation aber auch: Kultur ist nicht ein Luxus, den man sich in guten Zeiten gönnt, sondern wir sehen jetzt, wie sehr sie uns fehlt, wenn wir für eine gewisse Zeit auf sie verzichten müssen“, sagte Grütters. „Wenn wir in dieser Situation dennoch empfehlen, Veranstaltungen abzusagen, tun wir das, weil wir es zur Zeit mit einer außergewöhnlichen Notsituation zu tun haben.“
Grütters weiter: „Künstler und Kultureinrichtungen können sich darauf verlassen, gerade mit Blick auf die Lebenssituationen und Produktionsbedingungen der Kultur-, Kreativ- und Medienbranche: Ich lasse sie nicht im Stich! Wir haben ihre Sorgen im Blick und werden uns dafür einsetzen, dass die speziellen Belange des Kulturbetriebs und der Kreativen miteinbezogen werden, wenn es um Unterstützungsmaßnahmen und Liquiditätshilfen geht.“
Coronavirus – Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters promises support to cultural institutions and artists
In reaction to the cancellation of cultural events and the noticeable drop in the number of visitors due to the corona virus, Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters has expressed her support for cultural institutions and artists: “I am aware that this situation places a great burden on the cultural and creative industries and can put smaller institutions and independent artists in particular under considerable pressure,” said Grütters.
The Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media recommends that federally funded cultural institutions follow the advice of the Robert Koch Institute. According to these, larger events must be cancelled, especially those that take place in limited spaces. In the case of smaller events, one has to ask oneself, in view of the circumstances of the individual case, whether it is justifiable to hold such events.
“In this situation, however, we also recognize that culture is not a luxury one indulges in good times, but that we now see how much we miss it when we have to give it up for a certain period of time,” said Grütters. “If we nevertheless recommend cancelling events in this situation, we will do so because we are currently dealing with an exceptional emergency situation”.
Grütters continues: “Artists and cultural institutions can rely on us, especially in view of the living situations and production conditions of the cultural, creative and media industries: I won’t let them down! We have their concerns in mind and will work to ensure that the special needs of the cultural sector and creative people are taken into account when it comes to support measures and liquidity assistance”.
Les musiciens de l’Opéra de Paris jouent pour les avocats
Les avocats étaient à nouveau dans la rue ce mercredi 11 mars. Ils protestaient une nouvelle fois contre la réforme des retraites qui devrait mettre un terme à leur régime autonome. Pour cette nouvelle mobilisation, ils ont imaginé un relais à vélo ou à pied intitulé “relais pour la justice”. À chaque étape de leur course, de nouveaux collègues se joignent au mouvement.
À leur étape place de l’Opéra, ce ne sont pas des avocats qui les ont accueillis, mais les musiciens de l’Opéra de Paris, comme vous pouvez le voir dans la vidéo ci-dessus. Dehors devant les portes du célèbre lieu, ils ont joué plusieurs morceaux de musique classique en soutien aux avocats.
Paris Opera musicians play for lawyers
The lawyers were back on the street on Wednesday, March 11th. They were protesting once again against the pension reform that should put an end to their autonomous regime. For this new mobilization, they imagined a relay on bicycle or on foot called “relay for justice”. At each stage of their race, new colleagues join the movement.
At their stage in the Place de l’Opéra, it was not lawyers who welcomed them, but the musicians of the Paris Opera, as you can see in the video above. Outside in front of the doors of the famous place, they played several pieces of classical music in support of the lawyers.
