BACKSun Valley Music Festival goes online
This year’s Sun Valley Music Festival, usually based in the resort city of Sun Valley in Blaine County, Idaho, USA, is to take place online, from 27 July to 19 August.
The lineup will still include performances – as originally planned – by guest artists Leila Josefowicz, Daniil Trifonov, Orion Weiss, and ensembles Time for Three and The Villalobos Brothers, as well as a Beethoven @ 250 series, to include guest speaker and Beethoven scholar Jan Swafford.
From their home cities, Festival Orchestra musicians will play in solo, duet, chamber, and full orchestra configurations, starting on the festival’s opening night, Monday 27 July at 6:30 p.m. MT.
Music Director Alasdair Neale said: ‘While we will all miss the social gatherings of the summer, this transformation gives us the chance to produce all-new programs from our musicians in their homes and hometowns. We’re looking forward to delving into a great treasure trove of music one doesn’t usually hear at an orchestra concert. We’ll have the opportunity to get to know the musicians in a more relaxed and intimate environment. And, most of all, we will be able to further strengthen the bonds that already tie us together so wonderfully.’
Konzerthäuser in Nordrhein-Westfalen öffnen wieder
Am 31. Mai spielen die Düsseldorfer Symphoniker in der Tonhalle Düsseldorf das erste Konzert mit Publikum seit der vorübergehenden Corona-Schließung. Am Pfingstsonntag werden sie unter der Leitung von Adam Fischer das Adagietto aus der Fünften Symphonie von Mahler und Haydns Abschiedssinfonie spielen – vor 100 Gästen im Saal und zahlreichen weiteren Zuhörern, die den Livestream an den heimischen Bildschirmen verfolgen werden.
Auch die anderen der vier großen Konzerthäuser und Philharmonien in Nordrhein-Westfalen – das Konzerthaus Dortmund, die Philharmonie Essen und die Kölner Philharmonie – planen den Konzertbetrieb wieder aufzunehmen. Die Intendanten Michael Becker, Raphael von Hoensbroech, Hein Mulders und Louwrens Langevoort befinden sich dazu in enger Abstimmung und freuen sich sehr darauf, ihre Häuser endlich wieder für Publikum öffnen zu dürfen – selbstverständlich unter strenger Beachtung aller Hygiene- und Abstandsregeln.
Concert halls in North Rhine-Westphalia open again
On May 31, the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra will play the first concert with audience in the Tonhalle Düsseldorf since the temporary Corona closure. On Pentecost Sunday, under the direction of Adam Fischer, they will play the Adagietto from the Fifth Symphony by Mahler and Haydn’s Farewell Symphony – in front of 100 guests in the hall and numerous other listeners who will follow the live stream on their home screens.
The other four of the four large concert halls and philharmonics in North Rhine-Westphalia – the Dortmund Concert Hall, the Essen Philharmonic and the Cologne Philharmonic – are planning to resume concert operations. The directors Michael Becker, Raphael von Hoensbroech, Hein Mulders and Louwrens Langevoort are in close coordination and are very much looking forward to finally being able to open their houses to the public again – of course, strictly observing all hygiene and clearance rules.
Compositrices et compositeurs s’unissent pour créer une fédération professionnelle
“Initiative historique” selon nos confères de La Lettre du musicien qui publient cette tribune signée par 170 personnes. Historique puisque pour la première fois compositrices et compositeurs vont mettre sur pied une fédération professionnelle, regroupant tous ceux qui écrivent de la musique et qui résident en France. Parmi les signataires, Pascal Dusapin, Kaïja Saariaho, Philippe Manoury, Philippe Hersant, Besty Jolas ainsi que la génération montante avec Camille Pépin, Jules Matton ou Elise Bertrand.
Cette fédération aura quatre missions principales : réfléchir au statut de l’artiste compositeur, contribuer à sa reconnaissance et à sa structuration, veiller à l’action des pouvoirs publics et à la diffusion de la musique de création dans les médias publics et privés et enfin, diffuser les répertoires auprès de la plus large audience possible.
Composers unite to create a professional federation
“Historical initiative” according to our conferees of La Lettre du musicien who publish this tribune signed by 170 people. Historical because for the first time composers are going to set up a professional federation, gathering all those who write music and who reside in France. Among the signatories are Pascal Dusapin, Kaïja Saariaho, Philippe Manoury, Philippe Hersant, Besty Jolas as well as the rising generation with Camille Pépin, Jules Matton or Elise Bertrand.
This federation will have four main missions: to reflect on the status of the artist/composer, to contribute to its recognition and structuring, to watch over the action of public authorities and the diffusion of creative music in the public and private media and finally, to disseminate the repertoires to the widest possible audience.
APAP Names Lisa Richards Toney President and CEO
The Association of Performing Arts Professionals announced the appointment of veteran performing arts executive Lisa Richards Toney as the organization’s next President and CEO.
In her new role at APAP, Toney will work with the APAP board of directors and staff to address both the strategic vision of the organization and the immediate and emerging needs of the performing arts field in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
Toney brings more than 20 years of experience in the performing arts world to her new role and she previously served as the first Executive Director of the Debbie Allen Dance Academy and as Director, Literature to Life, for The American Place Theatre where she presented performances at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and The Library of Congress.
