The awards presentation is in association with BBC Radio 3.

Deutsche Theater schreiben Merkel – Sorge um Bestand der Kultur
23 Intendanten und Schauspieldirektoren von deutschen Theatern haben in einem Brief an Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel (CDU) anteilige Bundesmittel gefordert, damit Kommunen künftig trotz der Corona-Krise nicht an der Kultur sparen. Vielen Theatern und Künstlern «steht das Wasser bis zum Hals, sowohl kurzfristig als auch und vor allem in der weiteren Perspektive», hieß es in dem am Donnerstag veröffentlichten Schreiben. Unter anderem hatten Joachim Klement vom Staatsschauspiel Dresden, Enrico Lübbe (Schauspiel Leipzig) sowie Hasko Weber (Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar) das Schreiben unterzeichnet.
Sie seien in großer Sorge um das Fortbestehen des kulturellen Lebens, schrieb der Intendant des Hamburger Thalia-Theaters, Joachim Lux, stellvertretend für 22 weitere große Häuser. Um die Zukunft der kleinen und großen Theater, der Künstler und der ihttps://www.thalia-theater.de/nternationalen Zusammenarbeit zu sichern, sei nun der Bund in der Pflicht.
Die Intendanten regen in dem Schreiben zum Erhalt der Kultur an, «Bundeshilfen für die Kommunen nach dem bereits existierenden und bewährten Modell komplementärer Finanzierung zu gestalten.» Dabei müsse sich der Bund zu einem bestimmten Prozentsatz beteiligen und Kommunen und Länder würden sich gleichzeitig zu einem sie nicht überfordernden Restbetrag verpflichten. «Mindestens aber müssten sich die Kommunen beziehungsweise Länder verpflichten, von Sparmaßnahmen an der Kultur abzusehen, auch von indirekten.» Das könnte beispielsweise ein Nichtausgleich von Tariferhöhungen sein. Ein solches oder ähnliches Paket müsse schnell auf die Beine gestellt werden, «denn die nächsten Haushalte und Doppelhaushalte stehen vor der Tür».
German theatres write to Merkel – concern about the survival of culture
In a letter to Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), 23 artistic directors of German theatres have called for proportionate federal funding so that local authorities will not cut back on culture in the future, despite the Corona crisis. Many theatres and artists “have water up to their necks, both in the short term and, above all, in the broader perspective,” it said in the letter published on Thursday. L’Orchestre national de France, l’une des deux formations symphoniques de Radio France, va se retrouver sans directeur musical jusqu’en 2021, après la démission surprise d’Emmanuel Krivine qui a annoncé son départ dans un communiqué transmis jeudi à l’AFP. « Après avoir partagé, avec l’Orchestre national de France (ONF) et notre fidèle public, tant de beaux moments de musique et d’humanité lors de nos concerts (70 environ), j’ai cependant décidé de mettre fin à mes activités à Radio France », a indiqué Emmanuel Krivine. Le chef d’orchestre, 73 ans, en place depuis 2017, a invoqué des « raisons personnelles » pour justifier son départ, qui était prévu en 2021. Il devait alors être remplacé par le chef d’orchestre roumain Cristian Macelaru.

The Orchestre National de France, one of Radio France’s two symphony orchestras, will find itself without a music director until 2021, following the surprise resignation of Emmanuel Krivine, who announced his departure in a statement sent to AFP on Thursday. “After sharing so many beautiful moments of music and humanity with the Orchestre National de France (ONF) and our loyal audience during our concerts (around 70), I have decided to end my activities at Radio France,” Krivine said.
