In June, the Royal Opera House will have its first performances since lockdown with Tony Pappano. BBC Radio 3 will broadcast the first concert and BBC television will broadcast highlights from all three concerts, following a rebroadcast of Pappano’s Opera Italia series.
Lederer zu Kultur-Milliarde: Culture is less important
Berlin’s Senator for Culture, Klaus Lederer, has welcomed the one billion euros in aid for cultural professionals announced by the Secretary of Culture Monika Grütters (CDU) – but does not see enough help for those affected. “It is good that three months after the start of the pandemic, the culture is now also being addressed by the federal government,” the left-wing politician told the editorial network in Germany (RND / Friday). “But the billion shows the importance of culture – compared to an airline’s € 9 billion subsidy.” Unfortunately, it will not help states and municipalities to secure the infrastructure.
“Even with bureaucratic bridging aids, artists will not have a social and professional perspective until September, because culture was and will be the longest affected by the pandemic,” said Lederer. “It won’t be over in September.”
Musical ensembles suffer a 45.6% drop in turnover

In a survey of its member ensembles, Fevis revealed that concert cancellations for the period March to July reduced their turnover by 45.6%. Halls and concert organisers have so far only paid 4.7% of the sale price of the concerts.
