Jonas Kaufmann withdraws from Wagner’s Ring at the Paris Opéra
The soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek also withdrew. The principle of a live broadcast on France Musique has been abandoned.
The Ring series at the Paris Opera continues. Several times postponed, and finally transformed into a concert version without an audience, the project saw the disappearance of two important protagonists: Jonas Kaufmann and Eva-Maria Westbroek, who were to sing Siegmund and Sieglinde respectively in La Walkyrie. They are replaced by Stuart Skelton and Lise Davidsen, who are also fabulous performers in these roles.
Another Covid-19 coup
This change of cast follows the upheaval in the rehearsal and performance schedule, caused by one (or ?) case of Covid-19 contamination within the artistic forces. Also, due to the uncertainties that this situation brings about, the principle of broadcasting the Tetralogy live on France Musique has been abandoned.
