Martha Argerich : l’insaisissable
Martha Argerich: The elusive
There is Martha Argerich … and there are all the other pianists. The one whose eightieth spring will be celebrated on June 5 captivates and moves, dazzles and amazes as on the first day. Without having lost any of her astonishing pianistic health, La Martha – as La Callas was called – nevertheless remains a mystery. “The lioness of the keyboard” has not finished enchanting us … and confusing us.
In Bloody daughter, the film that Stéphanie Argerich devoted to her mother, one episode says more than any other. As she is about to enter the stage for an extremely rare solo performance, Martha Argerich growls: “I think I have a fever. I don’t want to play.”
