Violinist Randall Goosby: ‘It’s incredibly humbling for me to share these Black composers’ music’

The rising star violinist speaks to Classic FM about his debut album, ‘Roots’, and what it means to be a Black artist championing works by diverse voices today.

“There really is no limit to the number of voices, and the number of stories and cultures, that can be part of the classical music canon,” violinist Randall Goosby tells Classic FM. 2021-2022 au Grand Théâtre de Genève : faites l’amour !

This is the theme chosen by Aviel Cahn, the institution’s director, for this new season, which includes nine opera productions. “The subject is at the heart of current events, with these barrier gestures that are sanitising our interactions”, says Aviel Cahn to explain the slogan of his next season at the head of the Grand Théâtre Genève. “But this theme is meant to be much broader, with a lot of room for interpretation by the audience. ”

The season will begin in September, with the rare and monumental War and Peace by Prokofiev, directed by Calixto Bieito and conducted by Alejo Pérez. This, says Aviel Cahn, will be the beginning of a cycle of Russian operas with Bieito.
