First woman on the Bayreuth podium: conductor Oksana Lyniv

Oksana Lyniv is to conduct on Bayreuth’s Green Hill on Sunday – as the first woman in 145 years of Festival history. She already has a decisive advantage over most of her male colleagues.

It has taken 145 years to get to this moment: On Sunday, for the first time in the history of the Bayreuth Festival, a woman will stand at the conductor’s podium. “Because there were obviously not enough female conductors,” answers Festival Director Katharina Wagner when asked why it took so long. But now there is one: Oksana Lyniv, most recently chief conductor of the Graz Opera, is to provide the historic moment at the Festival opening with the Wagner opera “The Flying Dutchman”.

Museums, cinemas, theatres: the Health Pass is essential in cultural venues receiving more than 50 people from Wednesday

This change, which applies from Wednesday 21 July, is ratified by a decree published in the Official Journal, separate from the bill presented on Monday by the government.

The health pass against Covid-19 will have to be presented in a certain number of places that can accommodate 50 people, such as cinemas, theatres or museums, according to a decree published on Tuesday 20 July in the Official Journal, which will come into force on Wednesday 21 July.

A health pass in places with more than 50 people
This measure is contained in a decree published on Tuesday in the Official Journal, which lowers to 50 people (compared to 1,000 previously) the number of people in places subject to the health pass.

The latter will be required in cultural venues (cinemas, museums, theatres, etc.) from Wednesday. And unlike the public who access them, employees who work in these places will have to keep the mask for the time being, said the Ministry of Labour.

New York’s Carnegie Hall to Require Proof of Vaccination

The venue announced that everyone who enters the hall must show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 with a WHO-approved vaccine.

The announcement comes as similar organizations — like the Metropolitan Opera — have instituted similar requirements. The new rules come as COVID-19 cases are on the rise in many cities nationally, largely due to the highly transmissible Delta variant.

Carnegie Hall is continuing to examine “all aspects of the Carnegie Hall experience so that audiences, artists, visitors, staff, and volunteers are able to return with confidence,” according to the organization’s website.
