Trio Colores win the Lerman Gold Prize and the Audience Choice Award at the 10th International Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition for Young Professionals

The percussion ensemble Trio Colores (made up of WildKat client Fabian Ziegler, and his colleagues Matthias Kessler and Luca Stafffelbach) performed at the 10th International Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition for Young Professionals in the D.C./Maryland area on April 2nd, 2022.

This competition, whose aim is to “bring renowned musicians to delight, engage and surprise today’s audiences, and educate, inspire and develop tomorrow’s”, features ensembles made up of talented young musicians from both the United States and around the world. These ensembles must be acoustic instrumental ensembles, and the performers also must be engaged in study and/or performance. They must also be pursuing careers in music.

The audience and jury members enjoyed an exciting daylong celebration of chamber music as five finalists compete for the Lerman Gold Prize ($10,000) and Silver prize ($5,000). At the end of the evening, there is also an Audience Choice award.

After an electric and engaging performance, Trio Colores claimed the hearts of not only the jury but also the public, walking away with both the Lerman Gold Prize AND the Audience Choice award. WildKat would like to congratulate Fabian Ziegler and Trio Colores on this outstanding achievement!

More on Trio Colores

Hailing from both Austria and Switzerland, Matthias Kessler, Luca Stafffelbach, and Fabian Ziegler are connected by a longstanding passion for percussion with a visible joy in performing music. These qualities are perfectly combined into Trio Colores. Playing as an ensemble since 2017, the repertoire of the trio spreads over a large spectrum of 20th-century percussion masterpieces by Iannis Xenakis, Steve Reich and John Cage alongside works by living composers such as Ivan Trevino, Emmanuel Séjourné, and Theirry de Mey.

Their knowledge of classical and contemporary music, combined with their interest in challenging the traditional boundaries of modern music, results in creative, ambitious, and uniquely arranged concert programs. The trio share with audiences both the versatility of percussion instruments and the fascinating always growing new timbres they provide.
