Acclaimed classical composer Caroline Leisegang released her fifth studio album, Comes the Night, on October 25, 2024 to all digital streaming platforms.
Having studied piano and cello, Caroline went on to study at Trinity College of Music in London. Here she studied under composer Deirdre Gribbin, winner of the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival Prize and the Arts Foundation Award as well as renowned film composer and orchestrator, John Ashton.
Following the release of her debut album, Øyeblikk, in 2015, and boasting several million streams on digital listening platforms, Caroline continues to explore her musical universe.
Comes the Night differs from Caroline’s previous projects, as she has decided to include strings and piano, as opposed to following her previous solo piano format . For this album, Leisegang chose to highlight the evocative power of the cello and called on the musician Clare Vandeleur.
The title was inspired by a book of the same name that really resonated with the composer. She discovered it at the iconic Shakespeare & Co. bookstore in Paris, and went on to read it multiple times. The act of repetition is a theme that comes up throughout the album, and is something that Caroline finds great comfort in.
Featuring eight new compositions, Leisegang describes the piece ‘Victorine’ as one of her personal highlights. She notes, “I tried something different and out of my comfort zone with this body of work. It’s a very personal album, maybe even a bit self-involved,” she admits, emphasising its introspective nature. “However, as with all my work, it is my hope that listeners will find their own personal connection with Comes the Night. “
Comes the Night was recorded in July 2024 at High Seas Studios in Johannesburg and mastered in Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio, allowing listeners to feel every gesture, while guiding them on a journey through the music. The album was released with independent South African label, Xhap Xhap.
