Snape Maltings continues live performances

Following its opening weekend of concerts, live music-making with live audience continues at Snape Maltings, with short concerts every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

There are two performances per day, with audiences invited to pay what they feel they can afford for the afternoon performance. All evening performances are priced at £15 per ticket. There are also some free informal pop-up outdoor performances by local musicians.

The concerts feature some of the musicians who would have performed during this year’s Aldeburgh Festival and Snape Proms, in addition to other artists, including Nicola Benedetti and Alina Ibragimova (4 September), pianist Clare Hammond(5 September) and Jess Gillam (6 September).

Bayerische Staatsoper darf 500 Zuschauer empfangen

Bavarian State Opera can receive 500 spectators

The Bavarian State Opera may receive up to 500 visitors during its performances as a test. A four-week pilot test will start on 1 September, said Bavaria’s Minister of Art Bernd Sibler (CSU) on Monday. The aim is to gain experience with more than the 200 people previously admitted in the Free State for indoor cultural events and the necessary protection and hygiene measures. On the basis of the knowledge gained, a decision will then be taken on further steps.

The pilot project was initiated by the Bavarian Ministry of Art in cooperation with the Bavarian Ministry of Health. Sibler explained that people’s deep-rooted longing for art and culture is something they encounter almost daily. The pilot project at the State Opera, which ends on 30 September, explored the possibilities of increasing the number of visitors to cultural events.

“The aim is to strengthen art and culture in Bavaria, but the goal remains a prudent approach to ensure that art enjoyment remains safe”, said the Minister.

Paris Opera: ask for the programme!

Due to the health crisis and renovation work, Garnier and Bastille will remain closed for a few more months. Here’s an overview of the highlights of the 2020-2021 season, which will not start until next November.

There will be no more beautiful covers (Iphigénie en Tauride, La Fille de neige), no more Ring directed by Calixto Bieito – we will have to be satisfied with a concert version – but the last season of Stéphane Lissner at the head of the “Grande Boutique” still gives us great pleasure. We’ve been hearing about it for years: the creation of Marc-André Dalbavie’s Soulier de Satin is shaping up to be an event. Paul Claudel’s piece fleuve will be performed at the opera in six and a half hours with intermissions, making it one of the longest operatic works in the repertoire! Stanislas Nordey leads a dazzling team of singers: Luca Pisaroni, Jean-Sébastien Bou, Eve-Maud Hubeaux, Max Emanuel Cencic, Nicolas Cavallier, Béatrice Uria-Monzon, Vannina Santoni, and Yann Beuron for his farewell to the stage.
