BEE250VEN Online Festival: Großes Finale startet am 21. August

Classic@Home starts BEE250VEN Online Festival

The Beethoven Year must also adapt to the circumstances in the year of the pandemic. But the exceptional situation has also released new potential: The video platform Classic@Home is currently devoting the BEE250VEN Online Festival with an international programme (already included: Michael Barenboim, the Quattro Hermes, Patricia Kopatchinskaja and the Trio Sora) to the birthday child throughout August. Starting on August 21, a Beethoven symphony will be played every day at 7:30 p.m. for nine days as the grand festival finale, in different instrumentations and at different locations worldwide.

For the symphonies with odd numbers, the festival presents a new orchestra formation, the Digital Orchestra by Golikov. Founded by the Russian conductor Mikhail Golikov, the orchestra has set itself the task of overcoming boundaries and exploring new possibilities using digital means. For example, the orchestra filmed in St. Petersburg for the Ninth Symphony will be accompanied by a choir in Berlin: Singers from the RIAS Kammerchor and the Choir of the Berlin State Opera are recorded in small formations and digitally combined with the orchestra.

All symphony concerts will be shown as premieres between 21 and 29 August at 7:30 p.m. and can still be seen afterwards at www.classic-at-home.com.

Daniel Barenboim celebrates two anniversaries at the Salzburg Festival

This year’s Salzburg Festival is a year of anniversaries. Even if the festival was somewhat spoiled by the coronavirus epidemic and the special configuration imagined by the organisers. Excluding the 200 performances of the festival, this year Salzburg is more modest with 110 concerts in eight different venues, from 1 to 30 August. The festival is celebrating its 100th anniversary in a special atmosphere, as its president, Helga Rabl-Stadler, whose term of office ends this year, was able to underline.

The Salzburg Festival’s centenary season programme features Daniel Barenboim. The conductor and pianist concludes his Austrian stay with a solo piano recital devoted entirely to Beethoven on Wednesday, August 19. The date is symbolic for the musician, since 70 years earlier, on August 19, 1950, he gave his first public concert in Buenos Aires. The young prodigy was then 7 years old, and played a recital of works by Beethoven and Prokofiev.
