The Benedetti Foundation Orchestra releases Mascagni’s Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana

Today, violinist and music education ambassador Nicola Benedetti with her Foundation Orchestra will release Mascagni’s Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana on Decca Classics.

Created as part of the Benedetti Foundation, the Benedetti Sessions – a series of orchestra-based workshops catering for all musical abilities – will kick off in Glasgow this weekend (3 – 6 January). Intermezzo is one of the pieces that participants in the workshop will be learning, and the recording from the Benedetti Foundation Orchestra will be available digitally worldwide.

Reaktionen auf Morddrohungen gegen Igor Levit: Kampf gegen Antisemitismus

Nachdem der Pianist Igor Levit die gegen ihn gerichteten Morddrohungen im “Tagesspiegel” öffentlich gemacht hat, fordern Politiker wie der Grünen-Vorsitzende Robert Habeck und Bundestagspräsident Schäuble härtere Maßnahmen gegen Antisemitismus. Die CDU in Hannover, wo Levit an der Musikhochschule Professor ist, schlägt eine Städtepartnerschaft mit einer israelischen Stadt vor.

Reactions to death threats against Igor Levit: The fight against anti-Semitism

After the pianist Igor Levit made the death threats against him public in the “Tagesspiegel“, politicians such as the chairman of the Green Party, Robert Habeck, and the president of the Bundestag, Schäuble, demand tougher measures against anti-Semitism. The CDU in Hanover, where Levit is a professor at the music academy, is proposing a city partnership with an Israeli city.

Record de candidatures asiatiques au concours international de piano Chopin

La moitié des 500 jeunes pianistes (455 en 2015) ayant envoyé leur candidature au 18e concours international de piano Chopin de Varsovie, dont la phase finale aura lieu en octobre 2020, est originaire d’Asie. Ainsi, plus de 100 pianistes chinois (y compris Hong Kong et Taïwan) forment le contingent de candidats le plus important à vouloir participer à cet événement majeur de la vie musicale mondiale en 2020, a indiqué l’Institut national Frédéric Chopin de Varsovie. Quelques 90 Japonais et une soixantaine de Polonais se sont également présentés à cette 18è édition du concours polonais, réservé aux pianistes âgés de 16 à 30 ans. Après la victoire, lors de l’édition précédente en 2015, du Sud-Coréen de 21 ans Seong-Jin Cho, 35 de ses compatriotes ont envoyé leur dossier. Parmi les 53 pays représentés sur la liste des participants potentiels, les groupes les plus fournis, après les Asiatiques et les Polonais, sont les Américains, les Canadiens, les Russes et les Italiens. Les Français seront une quinzaine. Des musiciens asiatiques sont présents également parmi les membres du jury, tels le Vietnamien vivant à Montréal Dang Thai Son, la Chinoise Sa Chen et la Franco-Japonaise Akiko Ebi.

Record Number of Asian entries for the Chopin International Piano Competition

Half of the 500 young pianists (455 in 2015) who applied to the 18th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, the final phase of which will take place in October 2020, are from Asia. Thus, more than 100 Chinese pianists (including Hong Kong and Taiwan) form the largest contingent of candidates to want to participate in this major event of world musical life in 2020, said the Fryderyk Chopin National Institute in Warsaw. Some 90 Japanese and about 60 Poles also took part in this 18th edition of the Polish competition, reserved for pianists between 16 and 30 years of age. After the victory of the 21-year-old South Korean Seong-Jin Cho at the previous edition in 2015, 35 of his compatriots sent in their applications. Among the 53 countries represented on the list of potential participants, the largest groups, after Asians and Poles, are Americans, Canadians, Russians and Italians. The French will be about 15. Asian musicians are also present among the jury members, such as the Vietnamese living in Montreal Dang Thai Son, the Chinese Sa Chen and the French-Japanese Akiko Ebi.
