UK cultural life ‘diminished and shackled’ by post-Brexit artist visa policy

A leading composer has criticised the UK’s post-Brexit immigration laws, which will restrict the movement of EU artists to the UK, subjecting them to the same rules as their non-EU peers.
The Home Office has announced that as of January 2021, EU touring artists and their crews will require visas to perform in the UK.
Declared on Tuesday in a policy paper about the country’s new points-based system, the announcement means musicians, entertainers and sports players will no longer be able to travel to the UK without a Tier 5 visa or work permit – impacting on many of the country’s concerts, cultural events and festivals. English composer Howard Goodall criticised the move, telling Classic FM: “Our cultural life will be diminished and our currently thriving music industry shackled by these counter-productive new immigration rules.

Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival 2020 mit Weltstars

Klangvolle Namen sind auch in diesem Jahr beim Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival vertreten. Porträtkünstler wird ein Star an der Harfe. Die Besucher können sich auch auf ungewöhnliche Spielstätten freuen.
Mehr als 200 Konzerte, 126 Spielstätten, fast 200 000 Eintrittskarten – das sind Kernzahlen des Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festivals (SHMF) in diesem Sommer. Anne-Sophie Mutter, Rolando Villazón, Daniel Barenboim, Tom Jones, The King’s Singers, Sabine Meyer, Justus Frantz und Christoph Eschenbach als Duo, Musicalstar Ute Lemper sowie die Schauspieler Klaus Maria Brandauer, Martina Gedeck und Corinna Harfouch gehören zu den bekanntesten Namen. «Das wird wieder ein großartiges Jahr», sagte Ministerpräsident Daniel Günther (CDU) bei der Programmpräsentation mit Intendant Christian Kuhnt am Donnerstag in Kiel.
Vom 4. Juli bis zum 30. August stehen 217 Konzerte, fünf Musikfeste auf dem Lande und drei Kindermusikfeste im Programm. Veranstaltet werden sie in 126 Spielstätten an 72 Orten in Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, im Süden Dänemarks und im Norden von Niedersachsen. Erstmals ist das Festival im Tierpark Hagenbeck in Hamburg zu Gast. Weitere besondere neue Spielstätten sind das Feuerwehrmuseum in Norderstedt, der Museumsberg in Flensburg, die Bootshalle des Kieler Yacht-Clubs in Strande, das Kesselhaus der Muthesius Kunsthochschule in Kiel und das Airbus Werk in Stade.

More than 200 concerts, 126 venues, almost 200,000 tickets – these are the core figures of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival (SHMF) this summer. Anne-Sophie Mutter, Rolando Villazón, Daniel Barenboim, Tom Jones, The King’s Singers, Sabine Meyer, Justus Frantz and Christoph Eschenbach as a duo, musical star Ute Lemper and the actors Klaus Maria Brandauer, Martina Gedeck and Corinna Harfouch are among the most famous names. “This will be another great year,” said Minister President Daniel Günther (CDU) at the programme presentation with Director Christian Kuhnt in Kiel on Thursday.
From 4 July to 30 August, the programme includes 217 concerts, five music festivals in the countryside and three children’s music festivals. They will be held in 126 venues at 72 locations in Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, southern Denmark and northern Lower Saxony. For the first time, the festival is being held at the Hagenbeck Zoo in Hamburg. Other special new venues are the Fire Brigade Museum in Norderstedt, the Museumsberg in Flensburg, the boat hall of the Kieler Yacht-Club in Strande, the boiler house of the Muthesius College of Art in Kiel and the Airbus factory in Stade.

Des artistes menacent de retirer leurs œuvres de l’Opéra de Lyon

Ils contestent, dans une pétition, le licenciement de Yorgos Loukos, directeur du Ballet pendant trente ans. Chorégraphes (Mats Ek, Lucinda Childs…), metteurs en scène (Robert Wilson), danseurs (Sylvie Guillem) et comédiens (Isabelle Huppert), dirigeants d’institutions : une centaine de personnalités du spectacle vivant ont cosigné, le 19 février dans Libération, une tribune en soutien à Yorgos Loukos, 69 ans, ancien directeur du Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon. Celui-ci a été licencié le 6 février pour « faute grave » après sa condamnation – à 1 500 euros d’amende avec sursis et 5 000 euros de dommages et intérêts – par la cour d’appel de Lyon, le 11 décembre 2019, pour « discrimination » en raison du non-renouvellement du contrat d’une danseuse, au retour de son congé maternité.

Artists threaten to withdraw their works from the Opéra de Lyon

In a petition, they challenge the dismissal of Yorgos Loukos, director of the Ballet for thirty years. Choreographers (Mats Ek, Lucinda Childs…), directors (Robert Wilson), dancers (Sylvie Guillem) and actors (Isabelle Huppert), heads of institutions: a hundred or so personalities from the performing arts co-signed, on 19 February in Libération, a platform in support of Yorgos Loukos, 69, former director of the Lyon Opera Ballet. Loukos was dismissed on 6 February for “serious misconduct” after being sentenced – to a suspended fine of 1,500 euros and 5,000 euros in damages – by the Lyon Court of Appeal on 11 December 2019 for “discrimination” due to the non-renewal of a dancer’s contract after returning from maternity leave.
