BSO Resound launch search for Young Composer-in-Association

UK-based composers aged 18 to 30 are invited to apply for BSO Resound’s Young Composer-in-Association, supported by Allianz Musical Insurance.

The position will offer one composer the opportunity to develop their compositional technique and experience in a year long association with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s world-renowned disabled-led ensemble, BSO Resound.

The young composer-in-association will benefit from professional mentorship from Alexander Campkin, the ensemble’s Composer-in-Residence, and receive a £500 bursary provided by Allianz Musical Insurance, BSO Resound’s supporting partner.

As well as composing for traditional instruments in the ensemble, the Young Composer-in-Association will have the chance to develop their skills in working with new instruments/Assistive Music Technology and learn about composing for an inclusive and accessible ensemble.

Islington Council launches partnership with Guildhall School of Music & Drama

Islington Council is launching Music Education Islington, a pioneering new music service for its schools.

This week the council announces its new partnership with lead delivery organisation Guildhall School of Music & Drama, the internationally renowned conservatoire in the City of London. The first such partnership of its kind, Music Education Islington will be truly universal – accessible to every Islington child and young person aged five to 18, regardless of their background, educational attainment or ability to play.

Islington’s school pupils and teachers will be able to make the most of world-class music education and resources, as well as gaining access to a wide range of music and cross-arts experiences at both Guildhall School and at the Barbican. The partnership will also offer an instrument loan service with discounts or free provision for those on low incomes.

El Liceu rinde homenaje a Montserrat Caballé el día de su cumpleaños con una gala de grandes voces

El próximo viernes 12 de abril, día de su cumpleaños, a las 20.00h, tendrá lugar el concierto ‘La sonrisa de Montserrat Caballé’, un homenaje a la soprano barcelonesa en el Gran Teatre del Liceu, coliseo donde crecío profesionalmente y al que regresó prácticamente cada temporada, de forma paralela a una carrera que la consagró como una de las mejores voces de la historia.

La velada contará con algunas de las voces más destacadas de la historia de la lírica y viejos amigos que no han querido faltar a la cita. Nombres tan relevantes como Josep Carreras, Jaume Aragall, Joan Pons, Al Bano, Paata Burchuladze, Begoña Alberdi, María Gallego o José Bros, entre otros, cantarán en una noche  dirigida por Lluís Pasqual y que contará con la batuta de Guillermo García Calvo.

Otras primeras figuras del mundo de la ópera que no pueden trasladarse en aquellas fechas también estarán presentes en forma de testimonio audiovisual, como Plácido Domingo, Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Roberto Alagna o Juan Diego Flórez entre muchos otros.

The Liceu pays tribute to Montserrat Caballé on the day of her birthday

On Friday 12th April at 8pm, the concert ‘La sonrisa de Montserrat Caballé’ (The smile of Montserrat Caballé) will take place, an homage to the Barcelonian soprano at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the venue where she grew professionally and to which she returned practically very season in a career that has established her as one of the best voices in history. 

The evening will feature some of the most distinguished voices in opera history, and old friends. Names such as Josep Carreras, Jaume Aragall, Joan Pons, Al Bano, Paata Burchuladze, Begoña Alberdi, María Gallego and José Bros, amongst others, will sing in a night directed by Lluís Pasqual and under the baton of Guillermo García Calvo

Other prominent figures from the world of opera who were unable to attend will also be present in the form of audiovisual testimonials, such as Plácido Domingo, Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Roberto Alagna and Juan Diego Flórez, amongst many others.
