Chick Corea, Grammy-winning jazz musician, dies at 79

The jazz pioneer Chick Corea has died at the age of 79.

According to a post on his Facebook page, the musician died from “a rare form of cancer which was only discovered very recently”. In his career, Corea won 23 Grammys and was the fourth most-nominated artist in Grammys history.

“Throughout his life and career, Chick relished in the freedom and the fun to be had in creating something new, and in playing the games that artists do,” the post read. “He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, and a great mentor and friend to so many.”

Wolf-Preis für Komponistin Olga Neuwirth

Die österreichische Komponistin Olga Neuwirth erhält den diesjährigen Wolf-Preis. Die Musikerin wird damit für ihre “herausragende Meisterschaft, Kunstfertigkeit und kommunikatives Können als Komponistin von heute” geehrt, so eine Mitteilung der verleihenden Stiftung.

Die Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien hatte die Komponistin für den Preis vorgeschlagen. “Sie beweist als Künstlerin Haltung und zeigt auch mit den Mitteln ihrer Kunst gesellschaftspolitisches Engagement”, so Rektorin Ulrike Sych anlässlich der Bekanntgabe.

Wolf Prize for composer Olga Neuwirth

The Austrian composer Olga Neuwirth will receive this year’s Wolf Prize. The musician is being honoured for her “outstanding mastery, artistry and communicative skills as a composer of today”, according to a statement by the awarding foundation.

The University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna had nominated the composer for the prize. “She demonstrates attitude as an artist and also shows socio-political commitment with the means of her art,” said Rector Ulrike Sych on the occasion of the announcement.

Coronavirus : Roselyne Bachelot opposée au passeport vaccinal pour entrer dans les lieux culturels

La ministre de la Culture s’est exprimée ce mercredi sur France 2 au sujet du passeport vaccinal, de la réouveture des musées et des festivals d’été.

Et si l’on présentait la preuve que l’on a été vacciné contre le Covid-19 en même temps que son ticket de cinéma avant d’entrer dans une salle obscure ? Une perspective qui n’a rien d’une bonne idée aux yeux de Roselyne Bachelot.

« Je reste opposée au passeport vaccinal qui me semble une atteinte à nos libertés. L’amoureuse des libertés que je suis a du mal à l’imaginer ! Si on en arrivait là, ce serait un recul », a déclaré la ministre de la Culture, ce mercredi dans Télématin sur France 2.

Coronavirus: Roselyne Bachelot opposed to the vaccination passport to enter cultural venues

The Minister of Culture spoke on France 2 this Wednesday on the subject of the vaccination passport, the reopening of museums and summer festivals.

What if one presented proof that one had been vaccinated against Covid-19 at the same time as one’s cinema ticket before entering a darkened theatre? A perspective that is not a good idea in the eyes of Roselyne Bachelot.

“I remain opposed to the vaccination passport, which seems to me to be an attack on our liberties. The freedom-loving person that I am finds it hard to imagine! If it came to that, it would be a step backwards”, declared the Minister of Culture, this Wednesday in Télématin on France 2.
