BACKCity of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra players return thanks to new acoustic screen
A new acoustic screen at the rear of Birmingham’s Symphony Hall stage will allow more City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) musicians to play together while maintaining social distancing.
According to a CBSO press release, this will make for perhaps the largest orchestra performing anywhere in the UK when the players and live audiences return on 19 May.
The CBSO and its music director Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla have announced the details of forthcoming performances between 19 May and 7 July.

Das Festspielhaus Baden-Baden hat seine geplanten Ersatzveranstaltungen für die Osterfestspiele abgesagt. Die Konzerte, die Anfang Mai gemeinsam mit den Berliner Philharmonikern durchgeführt werden sollten, finden nicht statt. Grund dafür ist die Corona-Verordnung des Landes Baden-Württemberg, die den Spielbetrieb vorerst bis Mitte Mai verbietet.
Gleichzeitig wurden außerdem die Pfingstfestspiele, die von Mitte bis Ende Mai hätten stattfinden sollen, abgesagt, da keine Planungssicherheit gegeben und der Vorlauf zu kurz sei. Allerdings kündigten die Veranstalter einen digitalen Ersatz an.
Festspielhaus Baden-Baden: Easter Festival replacement cancelled
The Festspielhaus Baden-Baden has cancelled its planned replacement events for the Easter Festival. The concerts, which were to be held together with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra at the beginning of May, will not take place. The reason for this is the Coronavirus Ordinance of the State of Baden-Württemberg, which prohibits the performance until mid-May for the time being.
At the same time, the Whitsun Festival, which was to have taken place from mid to late May, was also cancelled because there was no planning certainty and the lead time was too short. However, the organisers have announced a digital replacement.

À 40 ans, Jessie Montgomery, va devenir la 6ème femme nommée compositrice en résidence du Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO). Elle sera également la 2e compositrice noire à voir ses œuvres interprétées par le CSO après Florence Price, dont la Symphonie n°1 avait été créée à Chicago en 1933.

Chicago Symphony Orchestra Music Director Riccardo Muti has named Jessie Montgomery composer-in-residence. The New York musician, who is very involved in equality and diversity issues, will succeed Missy Mazzoli next July for a three-year term.
Florence Price was the first black composer to be played by major American orchestras. Jessie Montgomery, 40, will become the 6th woman to be named composer-in-residence of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO).
