BACKYounger audience increase for Classic FM, as 610,000 under 25s listen every week
Classic FM is growing a new, younger audience for classical music, according to figures released today.
Every week, 5.5 million people tune in to Classic FM – growing by 324,000 on the previous three months.
In the latest numbers released by RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research), Classic FM also substantially increased its younger audience, with 59,000 more listeners aged 10-24 than the year before.
According to the figures, Classic FM is also London’s joint most popular music station on commercial radio based on the share of radio listening.

Der Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik e.V. gab gestern die Ehrenpreise 2020 und den Namen des Preisträgers der Nachtigall 2020 bekannt, wie sie vom Jahresausschuss gekürt wurden. Mit einem Ehrenpreis ausgezeichnet werden drei Persönlichkeiten der Musikwelt, die in ihrem jeweiligen Wirkungskreis neue Maßstäbe setzen und zugleich für den Tonträger als Kulturgut einstehen: der Dirigent François-Xavier Roth, der Produzent und Musikwissenschaftler Alberto Basso und der Musiker und Musikproduzent Moses Pelham. Die Nachtigall 2020 geht an Brigitte Fassbaender – eine Ausnahmesängerin, prägend für mehr ein halbes Jahrhundert der Gesangskultur auf Opernbühne und Konzertpodium, einerseits lebendig in der Erinnerung unzähliger Menschen in vielen glanzvollen Mezzo-Rollenporträts, andererseits Idol und Lehrmeisterin für Generationen von Sängern und gleichermaßen nachhaltig erfolgreich als Regisseurin und Intendantin.

The German Record Critics’ announced the 2020 Honorary Awards and the name of the nightingale 2020 award winner yesterday, as selected by the Annual Committee. Three personalities from the music world who set new standards in their respective spheres of activity and at the same time stand for the record as a cultural asset are awarded an honorary prize: the conductor François-Xavier Roth, the producer and musicologist Alberto Basso and the musician and music producer Moses Pelham. The Nightingale 2020 goes to Brigitte Fassbaender – an exceptional singer who shaped more than half a century of singing culture on the opera stage and concert podium, on the one hand alive in the memory of countless people in many glamorous mezzo role portraits, on the other hand idol and teacher for generations of singers and equally successful as a director and artistic director.
Création d’un théâtre Plácido Domingo à Tequila au Mexique
L’Opera Studio Beckmann qui forme des chanteurs lyriques au Mexique annonce qu’il va lancer la construction à Tequila d’une salle de spectacles et d’un conservatoire qui porteront le nom de Plácido Domingo. Alors qu’il est banni en Amérique du Nord depuis les accusations d’agressions sexuelles qui le visent, Plácido Domingo reste une icône dans les pays d’Amérique latine. C’est le cas au Mexique où il passa ses jeunes années suite à l’installation de ses parents à Mexico et où il débuta sur scène… au piano. Et même si la polémique autour de son comportement avec plusieurs femmes a agité la sphère culturelle mexicaine l’automne dernier, alors qu’une distinction (le Premio Baruta) lui a été attribuée après de longues tergiversations du comité d’organisation de ce prix, le ténor espagnol jouit toujours d’une côte de popularité immense dans le pays (Il y a même des statues à son effigie à Mexico et Puebla !).
Creation of a Plácido Domingo Theatre in Tequila, Mexico
The Beckmann Opera Studio, which trains opera singers in Mexico, announces that it will begin construction in Tequila of a performance hall and conservatory to be called Plácido Domingo. Although he has been banned in North America since he was accused of sexual assault, Plácido Domingo remains an icon in Latin American countries. This is the case in Mexico, where he spent his early years following his parents’ move to Mexico City and where he made his stage debut… on the piano. And even though the controversy surrounding his behaviour with several women stirred up the Mexican cultural sphere last autumn, when a distinction (the Premio Baruta) was awarded to him after long prevarication by the organizing committee of this prize, the Spanish tenor still enjoys an immense popularity rating in the country (there are even statues with his effigy in Mexico City and Puebla!).
