New dates announced for Classical: NEXT 2020

The ninth edition of Classical:NEXT will take place at De Doelen in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from May 18-21, 2020.
Classical:NEXT not only has new dates, but will be held on different days of the week. For 2020, the global gathering will span Monday to Thursday and, as a result, new hours and a new schedule have been unveiled.
Following its successful debut at Classical:NEXT 2019, the Higher Music Education Pre-Conference will take place once again, but new to the programme is the welcome on the first day to mark the opening of the trade fair and the first night celebration on the same day in the evening (Monday).
The Innovation Award will be held on the penultimate evening (Wednesday) and the final day (Thursday) will offer a networking opportunity and a keynote speech off-site, at a landmark location in Rotterdam.
Also in the planning for Classical:NEXT 2020 is a specially curated session of tech-focused pitches during the conference, as well as a tech island on the expo floor where exhibitors have the extra benefit of being able to do presentations and pitches.

Teilnehmerrekord beim sechsten Carl Bechstein Wettbewerb für Kinder und Jugendliche in Berlin

Preise im Wert von rund 10.000 Euro vergab die Carl Bechstein Stiftung beim sechsten Carl Bechstein Wettbewerb für Kinder und Jugendliche, der vom 1. bis 3. November 2019 im Kulturstall von Schloss Britz in Berlin ausgetragen wurde. Zum ersten Mal war der Wettbewerb ausgeschrieben für die Kategorie „Klavier solo – Klassik und Jazz”. Im Laufe des Anmeldezeitraums, der aufgrund der großen Nachfrage um zwei Monate verkürzt werden musste, hatten sich mehr als 90 junge Pianistinnen und Pianisten beworben. 64 Pianistinnen und Pianisten aus ganz Deutschland erhielten eine Zusage – ein neuer Teilnehmerrekord.Die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer konnten sich für die Wertungen Klassik oder Jazz entscheiden. Die hochkarätige Jury jedoch bewertete beide Kategorien und bestand folglich mit Prof. Gesa Lücker (Vorsitz), Prof. Markus Becker, Anke Helfrich, Prof. Björn Lehmann, Stefan Lietz und Alexander Wienand aus Pianisten und Klavierpädagogen aus beiden Genres. Beim Preisträgerkonzert waren dann Klassik- und Jazz-Beiträge munter gemischt. Und Prof. Christian Höppner, Vorsitzender des Kuratoriums der Carl Bechstein Stiftung, lobte zum Abschluss das „gelungene Experiment”, die beiden Musikrichtungen in einem Wettbewerb zu vereinen, sowie das erneut „hervorragende Niveau des Wettbewerbs”.

Record number of participants at the sixth Carl Bechstein Competition for Children and Young People in Berlin

The Carl Bechstein Foundation awarded prizes worth around 10,000 euros at the sixth Carl Bechstein Competition for Children and Young People, which was held from 1 to 3 November 2019 at the Kulturstall Schloss Britz in Berlin. For the first time the competition was announced for the category “piano solo – classical and jazz”. During the registration period, which had to be shortened by two months due to the great demand, more than 90 young pianists applied. 64 pianists from all over Germany were accepted – a new record number of participants.The participants were able to choose between classical or jazz music. The top-class jury, however, evaluated both categories and consisted of pianists and piano teachers from both genres: Prof. Gesa Lücker (chairman), Prof. Markus Becker, Anke Helfrich, Prof. Björn Lehmann, Stefan Lietz and Alexander Wienand. At the prizewinner’s concert, classical and jazz contributions were mixed cheerfully. And Prof. Christian Höppner, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Carl Bechstein Foundation, praised the “successful experiment” of uniting the two musical genres in one competition and the “outstanding level of the competition” once again.

Le palmarès des Grands Prix 2019 de la Sacem dévoilé

Comme chaque année, la Sacem, Société des auteurs, compositeurs et éditeurs de musique, a dévoilé les noms des lauréats de ses Grands Prix qui récompensent les professionnels du secteur musical.

Le Grand Prix du jazz revient à Christian Vander, co-fondateur du groupe Magma. Le groupe, qui célèbre cette année ses 50 ans, « est et restera cet ovni musical inclassable emmené par Christian Vander, Stella Vander et Francis Linon, épicentres créatifs de cette formation qui a aussi vu dans ses rangs éclore des pointures comme Didier Lockwood ou Simon Goubert », peut-on lire dans un communiqué de la Sacem. Fabien Cali remporte le Grand Prix de la musique classique contemporaine dans la catégorie jeune compositeur et Florentine Mulsant obtient la même récompense pour l’ensemble de sa carrière. Le Grand Prix des musiques du monde revient à Blick Bassy. La Cérémonie de remise des Grands Prix aura lieu le 2 décembre prochain à la Salle Pleyel à Paris.

Fabien Cali remporte le Grand Prix de la musique classique contemporaine

2019 Sacem Grand Prix winners announced

As every year, Sacem, the Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers, has announced the names of the winners of its Grand Prizes, which reward professionals in the music sector.

The Grand Prix du jazz was awarded to Christian Vander, co-founder of the group Magma. The group, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, “is and will remain this unclassifiable musical UFO led by Christian Vander, Stella Vander and Francis Linon, creative epicentres of this group which has also seen stars like Didier Lockwood or Simon Goubert bloom in its ranks,” according to a Sacem press release. Fabien Cali won the Grand Prix de la musique classique contemporaine in the young composer category and Florentine Mulsant received the same award for her entire career. The Grand Prix des musiques du monde goes to Blick Bassy. The Grand Prix Award Ceremony will take place on December 2 at the Salle Pleyel in Paris.
