Blüthner Piano Series
The inaugural Blüthner Piano Series takes place at St John’s Smith Square, London, throughout the 2017-18 season. Featuring seven virtuoso pianists, the recitals will showcase the piano with the famous Golden Tone.
Founded in Leipzig in 1853 by Julius Blüthner, the company has remained family-run ever since, with Dr Christian Blüthner-Haessler taking over as CEO in 1996. At one time the most prolific piano manufacturer in Germany, Blüthner is firmly within the ‘Big Four’ of piano makers. Its instruments have been favoured by Brahms, Mahler, Liberace, Debussy, Wagner, Strauss, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Ariana Grande. Rachmaninoff said “There are only two things which I took with me on my way to America…my wife and my precious Blüthner”.
Performers featured in the Blüthner Piano Series are Tom Poster and the Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective, Dmitry Masleev, Anna Fedorova, Martin Sturfalt, Chenyin Li, Anne Queffélec, and David Fray.
