Dresdner Philharmonie
OrchestraThe Dresdner Philharmonic (Dresdner Philharmonie) is known as an ensemble that exemplifies excellence and innovation but also champions access to music for all, as well as musical development and education for people of all ages. Collaborating with international guests on numerous occasions, the ensemble has solidified this orchestra’s position on the global classical music stage.
The Dresden Philharmonic routinely gives back to the community by organizing concerts expressly for families and school classes, as well as collaborating with primary schools across the city to make classical music more accessible to the next generation. The orchestra also runs the Kurt Masur Academy, educating and training the upcoming generation of musicians.
Aside from performing and outreach, the Dresdner Philharmonic has been steadily making recordings throughout the years. Currently, they have reached nearly 330 total recordings. This impressive body of work contains a great variety of masterpieces: A cycle of symphonies by Shostakovich as well as Beethoven conducted by Michael Sanderling (Sony Classical), Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana“ and Puccini’s “Il Tabarro“ under the baton of the main conductor Marek Janowski (PentaTone), to name a few.
While “on a break” in 2020/21 due to the pandemic, the Dresden Philharmonic and Marek Janowski used this “time off” to record Beethoven’s “Fidelio“, Schubert’s “Great” and “Unfinished” symphonies, as well as four symphonies by Schumann.
