Elizabeth began learning piano at the age of seven and went on to study at the conservatoire of her home town in Strasbourg. Elizabeth continued her studies across the globe in Buenos-Aires, London, Vienna and at the University of Mayance under the likes of Peter Feuchtwanger and Sergiù Celibidache.

The internationally acclaimed pianist boasts performances in some of the world’s most prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.

Elizabeth also created Fondation Résonnance in 1988, which aims to bring classical music into the community, to institutions where it is most needed: hospitals, orphanages and prisons.

The foundation continues to be active in seven countries and in 2006, Sombart was awarded one of the highest civilian honors France can bestow, the National Order of Merit (Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite) for Lifetime Achievement for her humanitarian work, and in 2008 was made a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for her artistic achievements.

On 28 February 2025 , Elizabeth released ‘Mozart Piano Concertos 9 & 12’ with Rubicon. This album was recorded alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Pierre Vallet In recent years, Elizabeth Sombart has released several CD projects together with the renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra London and its conductor Pierre Vallet, including Mozart’s Concertos Nos 20, 21, 23 & 27.
